Any Indians Out There?

Is this thread for native americans?

@pwalsh- Were native americans indian? No, they weren’t, so it doesn’t make sense to call them indians. This thread of basically for desi folks- that’s mostly people from India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh.

hey, fellow desis! just a typical desi girl here. probs a future doctor.
i was actually very interested in going into politics or buisness for a while, but what i wanted to do most was help people, so i think ill stick with medicine but actually travel the world and stuff unlike one of the old fashioned typical desi doctors.
anyway, its awesome to know that you guys basically have the same problems as me, by which i mean my parents!
on another note, how is the desi scene at your schools?

I never call Native Americans “Indians” because it’s inaccurate and confusing. Sorry for the confusion, though. You’re welcome to join the conversation!

There are literally 3 other Indians in my grade other than me. That’s it.

We have a decent number of brownies- maybe 100 kids out of our 2,000 are indian. Not bad.

Wow, that’s a lot of Indians! In my old school we only had two 100% Indians, then one moved… I was all alone :(

we have a good amount of indians/desis in my school… but I don’t have many indian friends lol.

There are 2 new Indian kids in my school! One of them is in my chem class! She’s Punjabi. She might be a sophomore but I don’t care. Must befriend the new Desi.

Tonight I was a victim of Indian comparison. The usual.

You know that you’re desi when you had maggie twice a week… It tastes too good!

I was “Indian” compared in elementary school, when most of the friends my parents were familiar with were brown. In high school, I get compared with everyone :D

I’m the only Indian person in my entire school of 95% white people. But then again, I’ve lived my entire life without Indian friends and heritage. I feel bad for losing that touch.

I actually don’t like Maggie. I like hakka noodles and stuff but I hate Maggie.

But dosa and idli rock, am I right.

OMG Hakka noodles. I actually love them. There’s this place relatively close to where I live that makes the best noodles ever. Spicy, but with flavour. I love their mutter paneer too. It’s just sooo good (and I don’t care too much about food, as long as it’s tasty/healthy).

Maggie, I agree can be dull. I make it weirdly though- I cut onion and green chili and put it in the boiling water, add the masala and then the noodles. It’s a bit soupy that way, but not like watered down. I add red pepper and salt on top. By itself, I don’t like it at all.

We have a good biriyani place nearby. Their biriyani is heavenly.

Oh my god, that’s so true! One time, I saw some of my guy friends out of school, and they waved at me <and tried="" to="" hug="" me=""> and it was so awkward, and my mom nearly had a hernia, and it was just… asian. Then, I had a 45 min lecture on the importance of not having a bf</and>

Omg, that’s hilarious!!

OHMYGOD I would die if that had happened to me! That’s so awkward!! Haha you need to warn your guy friends next time!

Why isn’t there a sitcom on the problems Indian American teenagers face everyday? I’d totally watch it.

Who here can do a an awesome Indian accent btw paneer or dosa debate
