You can't really blame them, Kowloon. Their main purpose is to educate Americans, since they're American universities. We should be grateful that we internationals are even given the opportunity to study in the US.

EDIT from my last post (it doesnt let me edit)
WARNING the followin post is a RANT:
Grrrrrrr.... this whole deal about shunning poor int'ls as second-class-humans at top unis like UChicago and Duke(with more money than oxford or cambridge PUT TOGETHER) just ticks me off...
I am sick n tired of hearing that those kinda unis dont have enough money for us... I mean, these unis barely use 5% of their endowment per year! Plus, if the U.S. supposedly has the 'right' and 'duty' to police over the world, they should also open widely their educational doors to any internationals, including the relatively poor ones (like us)
/Rant

sry if I was rude or anything, but I just needed to explode for a sec

The US does NOT have the right to police over the world. At least not in my opinion.

American foreign policy does not necessarily reflect college's viewpoint. But, I get where you are coming from. lol colleges with over 1 billion in endowment cant afford to finance another international. It just makes me want to explode as well.

A little off topic, but if you are interested, look for Ron Paul in Google or YouTube. He is completely the opposite a of what American policies have been for the last 80 years or so. A true libertarian. He believes that America shouldn't police the world, does not believe in the fed, does not believe in taxation. I personally don't agree with all his beliefs, but some of them seem to be quite honest and true.

^I meant that the U.S THINKS it has a right and DUTY to police and 'take care' of the world.

danhernan, lastima k Ron Paul no gano la nominacion... :(

Ah, that's a better way to put it.

^thnx :). I take it that you agree...? Sry if I sound pushy, but you should understand if ur an int'l w/FinAid facing American College admissions...

I agree. I'm an international not seeking fin aid facing admissions in a couple of years...

^wow... in a couple of years you face admissions and already have 3k + posts..?? dang, CC is addictive..

Refer to post#15, I was the one who said Northwestern would be a reach instead of "safety" for boeing767 and people didn't like what I said. ;)

I was rejected at U Chicago and I applied for financial aid. I was also rejected at Colgate. I'm still waiting for a few decisions but I kind of lost my hope. I heard that Amherst will e-mail us the decisions today. It's 12:56 in Romania and I'm still waiting...

^man that blows... Wish you luck for your other colleges...

Hehe, yeah. :D

erm actually cambridge's endowment is the same as duke's, and higher than U chicago's

lightycloud, did you apply RD to Colgate? when did u get your e-mail notification??

i still haven't heard anything from them yet... i mean, location shouldn't make a difference for e-mail notifications should it !? This is WEIRD...

friend of mine got into caltech and stanford and she did ask for aid. she is around here somewhere i think....her screen name is demoplayer

^longbowmen, not per capita though

Yes Alexis. I got a letter 2 weeks ago from Colgate. I live in Romania. They didn't send me an e-mail :(

I know it's irrelevant to Duke and UofC, but if you're interested...

I asked for significant aid and I got waitlisted at WUSTL (wait, which int'l asking for aid didn't?! :D) and Swarthmore (I feel very flattered they find me somewhat qualified and I think finaid was one of the main reasons for not being accepted). Got 4 more decisions coming out tonight, we'll see what colleges that are need-blind to int'ls think of my app.

^ Kowloon overall much lesser, per capita a little bit more, but hardly oxbridge "PUT TOGTHER" is it?
