Any more acceptances for Fall 2015 out there?

I recently was made aware that a student has been accepted for freshman admission for the Fall 2015. I don't know whether this person is in-state or OOS. The major accepted to was Nursing. This certainly would be much earlier than students began to be accepted for this Fall. Perhaps UD has refined its new admission procedure to begin accepting students earlier. Has anyone else out there heard of any other acceptances?

My daughter appplied to Nursing on 10/1/14. Udel is absolutely her first choice, and she will go there if she gets in. We are OOS so I know that her chances are slim. She met with her admissions rep. who said that applicants can expect to hear back 8-12 weeks after applying. I have heard that OOS do not get notified as early is ISS. Does anyone know how they inform of the admissions decision?

My OOS D applied to Nursing last year same time. I kept checking her blue hen portal. It said thank you for applying, under review, etc. The in mid January it changed to Congratulations on your acceptance to the University of Delaware! The Nursing major was shown on the same page. Then a few days later the yellow acceptance pack arrived. I followed this board last year like an obsessed nut. There were lots of issues with acceptance portal posts etc. Hopefully these were ironed out. I wish your D the best, this is going to be a REALLY stressful wait for both of you. Good Luck!

@Sull29- Can I ask if your daughter was in state or out of state? My daughter has her heart set on UDel. She has applied to 9 other schools… and will be heartbroken if she does not get in. Her SAT was a 1990 and her unweighted gpa is a 3.5 and weighted is a 4.1. She has numerous AP’s and all Honors classes. She has alot of volunteer and extra curricular activities. Her recommendations and essay were excellent. What do you think her chances are? I could never find any good nursing admissions statistics.

Nursing is going to be insane this year at UD… I personally know 4 kids who are applying from NJ for UD nursing… I try to nicely tell them it’s a very low acceptance rate. bluedoggy4 you can get some great advice from @mwallenmd as well as Sull29’s experience… I think your daughter has great stats but I’m not 100% familiar with what’s required to get in. Good luck to you and your D! :)

Bluedog, We are in NJ. My D’s stats were very similar, your SAT is better while her Unweighted GPA was 3.87. Its hard to say, but I would think she is in a good position as far as her stats and EC’s go. The issue is the program only has 180 slots available. Mwallen who started this post has years of experience with the UD nursing program as his D graduated in 2010 and has since completed her masters. given the low number of spots coupled with ISS apps it will be hard to predict. I would advise you do formal visits several times and sched an interview. I think my D’s 3 formal visits plus interview might have help separate her from the pack. BTW the interview is quick and painless. Being you applied already, the visits and interview might be an after thought, but look on her portal, maybe she can still sched one. Again, good luck!!

@sull29- We visited the campus three times… general campus tour, nursing specific tour and Delaware Discovery Day. Her admissions representative did an onsite interview with her when she visited her school last month. I honestly do not know what more we can do. My daughter and her dog are a certified therapy team through Tufts University. She fell in love with the campus and school the first visit when she saw students with dogs from the PROUD program walking on campus. We have visited, and she has interviewed at other schools. She just loves Udel. Fingers crossed!!

Bluedog, You have both done all you can. I would feel cautiously optimistic. But you never know. You are in the exact spot we were in last year. My D fell in love first visit as well (who wouldn’t). What did help, was receiving acceptances from many schools early on. All NJ schools responded before Christmas. At least they know they are wanted somewhere as they wait it out. Several of my D’s other choices had nursing programs that accepted you into health science with the requirement you needed to apply to the actual nursing program after so many credits. UD accepts you right into nursing program and eliminates that future stress. UD has been an absolutely awesome experience for my D so far. A lot of work, but well worth it. I wish you both good luck!

In-state is always going to be a different admissions process than OOS… Though not sure about the nursing program, but I will say there is encouraging news for OOS applicants. Several nursing programs have expanded in the state, so there is less of a dependence and pressure on UD’s nursing program for in-state students. And UD is not always the first choice for in-state students. Keep in mind that Delaware is small state. the challenge for any student in the nursing or any job in the medical field is getting clinical internship time. Delaware does not have that many hospitals. And that is probably why the nursing program at UD is limited.

@bluedoggy4 my D is an active member of proUD. She has loved her time and interactions with the dogs. The third dog she has been involved in raising is scheduled to return to the Seeing Eye right after thanksgiving. It will be a bittersweet moment for sure!

@lefty1 I am glad to hear that your daughter has loved the PROUD program. It was just another part of Udel that my D loved!

Nursing and Chemical Engineering are the two most competitive majors for admission to UD. Historically UD Nursing gets 1500+ applications (overwhelming majority are from OOS), accepts around 300, with a target for a freshman Nursing class of around 130-135. 2/3rd+ of this class (85-95 students) is usually made up of OOS students (the largest percentage usually being from NJ). The overall OOS acceptance rate is a little below 20%. This year it looks like they ended up with a class of around 142. I suspect this larger number was at least partially related to my perspective that the Nursing Program at UD is finally being recognized for what it is, one of the best Nursing Programs on the East Coast and on par with any Nursing Program in the country. With all this being said I agree with the perspective that your D can be cautiously optimistic + (I added the +) about her chances of being accepted. Based upon our DD’s experiences at UD Nursing and her career accomplishments since her graduation It would be my perspective that if a student works as hard as possible and avails themselves of all the opportunities available at UD Nursing that they will obtain an excellent Nursing education which will prepare them very well for any career in Nursing a student might aspire to. If you have any questions regarding UD Nursing please feel free to PM me. Although our DD graduated in 2010 I have continued to maintain some" connections" with the Nursing Department at UD. Best of luck to your daughter.

Two of my sons friends were accepted to the honors college Friday 11/14. We are OOS Long Island.
Both male, one is majoring in Engineering not sure about the other. My son applied, as well but we have not heard yet.

NYIslekid were either of their parents alumni of UD? even if you are OOS, if your parent is an alumni, then it makes a big difference for the kids when they apply

One side note… we are from Rhode Island… not New Jersey. I am not sure if this has any bearing at all as far as admissions consideration. Also, my daughter was told that the expected wait time for a decision was 8-12 weeks. However; her admissions representative is new… so she was informed that it might be a little longer?

Also… are the decisions posted on mybluehen or did you receive via snail mail?

@bluedoggy4, It won’t make a difference what state you’re from but no matter where you are from it may be a bit longer… Keep in mind UD does NOT start the clock on the 8-12 weeks until they have uploaded and accounted for all parts of the application. Once it all reaches your D’s portal the clock will start. They did hold a few applications back last year as well. For example my son got his acceptance at the 12th week. He was on the cusp of acceptances and a few others that were as well didn’t hear until later in the process as well. I think it took UD about 2-3 weeks to upload all my son’s data last year to his file and then it was 12 weeks from there.

@lefty1 But your kids are legacy admissions are they not? Don’t they get the in-state treatment for admissions? UD used to have a different admissions path for legacy OOS, than simply OOS.

@lefty1… thanks for the clarification. I guess we are looking at mid to late January at the earliest. My neice applied but did not get accepted last year. She did not hear until March 27th. I am just hoping it is not that late for my daughter!

@airborne… oh hell no… I’m not a UD alum… they got nothing… lol! just regular ole fashioned OOS admissions for mine. A friend of mine who is a legacy had no different path for her daughter either but I think they got like $1k off tuition.
