I understand that you’re just trying to build for your future, but please understand that literally and truly nothing you could possibly do next year will help you in terms of college admissions or anything else. Don’t get arrested, don’t fail the 8th grade, and most importantly, don’t think about college admissions yet.

I don’t see the problem in having some consciousness of my future. Of course, I do not obsess over college admissions because that would be bad…

If you’re confused about why you haven’t enjoyed middle school, maybe its because you are on here or worried about your future too much. You should just be focused on enjoying middle school, on cc or other similar outlets.

I’m here too

Eh, middle school is supposed to suck. Does anyone enjoy it?

7th grade was so much fun. I had the best classes and saw my friends often.

I don’t think it’s worth stressing too much about your future now, that’s all. Maybe in the build up to 9th grade.

Nothing on this site is going to help you until you’re in High School, or in May when you’re picking classes.

If you want to learn about colleges https://bigfuture.collegeboard.org/ is better…and has last pretentious people/■■■■■■.

Who says I haven’t enjoyed middle school so far? It’s been a great time, and I’m looking forward to 8th grade and beyond.

You do, apparently:

I think he means “I don’t understand why everyone always assumes I study a lot and have not enjoyed middle school” (everyone being the people on this site)

Wow this is too early

@TheAtlantic: Yeah.

Well I’m going to take this opportunity to give some real advice instead of bashing.

1.) Enjoy being the king of Middle School. I had a ton of fun and freedom in the eighth grade. I knew all of teachers and I started to become more socially comfortable.

2.) Please do not stress about academics in Middle School too much. Do the minimum you possibly can while still being eligible to take the classes you need in high school. However, don’t become someone you’re not either–if your friend group is studious, stay studious (don’t alienate)

3.) Look forward to high school! It’s tons of fun (compared to middle school, anyway). Some of my fondest memories of high school came from my freshman year. It was a whole different world with Friday night football games under the lights, marching band, older kids, and more freedom. Most people bash high school on College Confidential because we’re all already over it and ready for the next stage in our lives (hence, we’re here).

4.) Don’t freak out when school is still school and you still don’t party every weekend. Here’s a hint: no one does. If people say they do, they’re probably lying. I didn’t even find my true friend group until later in high school and I never went to any real parties until this summer (between Junior and Senior year).

4.) Please don’t visit this site with any frequency. It will only serve to freak you out and give you insecurities. Furthermore, it might make you into one of those people who does things in high school for the sake of doing them and not because they actually want to or because they enjoy it. This is not the way to approach College Admissions.

5.) If you start to feel bored with your current situation, look forward to the small milestones. I used to envy the people that were older than me with such a burning passion that it depressed me. Look forward to meeting your first serious bf/gf (if you haven’t already), being the oldest people in the middle school, going to your first high school football game as a “high schooler”, going to homecoming/prom, joining your first club, getting your driver’s license, being an upperclassmen, etc. It really gives you something to work towards in the short term!

With the beginning of my Senior year this Thursday (the opening of the Common App), it will officially be the beginning of the end of this stage of my life. I used this little response to reflect on this chapter of my life (so far!) and it has truly had its ups and downs, but I don’t regret any of it.

I wish you the best of luck!

is this is a joke?

@rkw0211: Thanks for the advice!

@donewithh: It’s obviously not a joke. If you’re just going to bash like every other poster, then please refrain from posting.

I thought I was old when I was in 8th grade…now it seems little (no offense, Kommand).

8th grade for me was great, I enjoyed being the “top dog” of middle school. Enjoy being at the top before you’re knocked back down to freshman status. Work hard, but have a lot of fun.

I’m a senior and none of these things have ever happened to me (as far as the second one, I didn’t go to a normal middle school). I’ve also never gone to a party that didn’t involve cake and balloons. I feel like a loser now. :)
