Caltech is small and cool enough that we don't need to balkanize. Just chat here!

if anyone wants to hit me up on aim my screenname is... you guessed it... lizzardfire :P

mine is gotbrainsormilk. feel free to IM me :)

Hey my IM is cyprus780

Note that my class (2009) had our own separate forum administered by one of our own. My suggestion would be to start such a forum and tell everyone that you know has been admitted.

I'm available at AIM: boomerlu

I'm back from Poland!

AIM: CzarDerivative

We need our own forum for sure. It would be pretty cool to get to know some of the freshman class before school even starts. If anyone wants to see 2009's forum: http://2009.caltech.edu/

So, does anyone know how to do this kind of thing? We could use phpBB just like the c/o 2009 did since it's probably the most standard/powerful/free one. I have some experience in HTML and CSS but none in forum software or actually creating/maintaining a site.

I've set up forums before, and I'd be happy to set up and manage wants if Caltech wants to host. Ben, maybe you can check into the details of how they hosted the 2009 one?

She had her own hosting for a different site and just put up some forums over there.

Other classes have often used yahoo mailing lists.

I've got about 50MB of hosting if that's enough (not sure how much space a bulletin board takes up lol)

lizzardfire, 50MB is more enough for phpBB, YaBB or things like that.
Will you set up a forum? Or is CC enough?

I'll set one up.

or... maybe I won't. Lol, I need a database apparently. I'm on my friends server so I need to ask him where the database is.

Check out this site: http://www.frappr.com/caltech2010
It's got a forum already, and a few members. We could discuss some things there, some here. What do you think?

ok my friend is setting us up with a forum now... I'll edit this with the info in a few

That's great! Thanks lizzardfire and friend. :)
