Any point in paying Housing Deposit?

I haven’t even gotten my decision from UT yet but I am legible to pay a housing deposit fee and find a roommate, etc. Is there any point of paying this fee before even knowing my decision? Also, UT is not my first choice but is a top 5 choice. All my other schools come out on April 1. Should I wait?

Depends. If you are in state - and thus UT is a likely financial safety school - meaning it may very well be the one you can afford in the end, and if you are OK with parting with $50, pay it. Don’t consume yourself with searching for a roommate at this point. That is a waste of effort.

If on the other hand, you are OK with the idea of getting your fourth or fifth choice of dorms. If you are OK with the idea of living in Jester on one of the remaining non-renovated floors, then wait for your admission results or even wait until you have made a college decision.

You’ve already paid a lot of money for college applications at this point, so the small fee for the housing deposit doesn’t mean a whole lot in the long run, but it will give you good housing. Pay the deposit, and even if you don’t go to UT you’ll have been prepared.

Are you talking about submitting your housing application? Or accepting your housing contract? The housing application fee is $50 nonrefundable. I personally recommend that you go ahead and apply for housing ASAP if you haven’t already done so. It holds your place in line for room and residence hall assignments.

If you’re admitted to the university (congrats!) and accept your admission by satisfying your enrollment deposit, you are eligible for a housing contract offer. You will then owe $300 advance payment. The $300 payment may be refundable depending upon the reason you cancel.

Rumors are that decision notices com out in a few days so would be not be better to wait?
