Any point in taking the SAT 2s again?

I got a 31 ACT, and didn't do great on the SAT 2s (550 Spanish, 650 math 2, 680 bio). Most of my schools (except one) will take the ACT in replacement of the subject tests. I sent in both, though, but hopefully they will only take into acct the ACT score. I know that a 31 isn't great either for the top schools (I applied to yale, princeton, brown, and a few others)...and mentioned I was taking the subject tests again in Jan.

22 days to the test and I'm wondering...is there a point in taking it again? I'm not just saying this because I really don't want to study (which I don't), but I'm just wondering...with my high school semester coming to an end and finals coming up, I'm doubting my ability to even raise my scores by that much anyways...

What do you guys think? If I work hard for the next 22 days in both school and for the SATs and my ECs, do you think I can raise each score up to at least 700 each?

I know this is a question that maybe only I can answer, but I'm wondering - has anyone else been able to accomplish this? If so, how (specifically)?

I was kind of in the position you are in: I had lame sat2's and an unworthy sat1 in comparison to my ACT. I decided not to send in my sat2's because they really couldn't help my application that much, and really paled in comparison to my ACTs.

I hope I made the right choice, ahaha

Also, please correct me if I'm wrong, but it sounds pretty hard to raise multiple SAT2s at least 100 points each, esp with school back in session. shrug

That's what I'm thinking, too. Thing is, I already sent in my SAT 2s...foolishly, albeit. So, I'm just nervous that they won't discount my SAT 2s, and will look at both my ACT and SAT 2s. (Never took reasoning)

I'd love to go to UChicago or Yale, and I don't feel like I'm unqualified in any area besides testing.

I never took the SAT Subj (or ACT, for that matter) seriously. The most I ever studied for all three of my tests can add up to, I'm sure, less than 24 hours. I regret that, but now I'm just....apathetic? Can I really raise it? Should I just accept my mistakes and hope for the best? I don't know.

Most of my schools will take the ACT in replacement...except Princeton, I believe, which still requires 3 subjects, but they all rec that you still send in subject scores.

Well since you've sent them, you should just hope for the best. In all honesty, since you're now presenting your SAT2's, it might be beneficial to test again if you think you can really raise your scores. If you think it might be too hard to raise them significantly enough (let's be fair: a lot of CCers seem to frown on subject tests less than 700 when it comes to ivy league and that calibur), it might not be worth it. I wasn't sure if it would be worth it for me to retest considering I also had to keep up in school, so I decided to rely on my good act.

Either way, I'm sure that in the end you'll be fine. Very best of luck in your college admissions! :)

Thanks! :] I guess...for the next three weeks...I'm just going to focus on school and studying for the SATs. Just have to suck it up and study, study, study. I think that...with lots of work...I can get my math and bio up significantly. Spanish, well, I think I can get to a decent range, but I think I'll focus on what I feel I have a better shot at.

If you're going into a Spanish related major, I'd say your Spanish score will not be as important as your Math / Bio. Good luck!

I put undecided as my major. I think...biology is the most likely for adcoms to think I'd go into. I enjoy learning about it, but I don't think I want to major in it. I don't have a very strong passion for it as a career. I just like setting up labs, field trips, learning about it..etc.

Cool. Well, just focus on those two primarily (and of those two, math haha) and if you think you can pull an improvement, than go for it!

I will. Thanks. Haha. No more CC until the 27th...time to go study.

I was thinking of retaking my SAT I's again (560/750/750) but now I'm starting to change my mind..I guess it's cuz I've sent out most of my apps I'm just feeling like I'll stick to what I've got. Take them if you've practiced at least a little and feel you can do better. Confidence helps yakno..
And after you take them, you don't even have to send them if you didn't improve..

Well, I have a list of schools on my registration already. Since it is so late (Jan), schools said they will accept them if they are on the registration to receive scores.

I can edit it and take schools out of my registration...then put them back on if I improve dramatically. Should I do that? I feel that they will get the scores too late if I do that. Will they?

Hmm. I got a 580 on my World History SAT2 in June.
I was sort of depressed, because the score was so low.
So, I decided to take it again in December.
I didnt end up studying til 3 weeks before the test.
And I ended up getting a 690.
So, study up and shoot for it. (just an opinion)
