I know this is a rather trite and loaded question, but I was wondering what would make a competitive Vassar [junior] transfer? Does anyone know what Vassar places the most emphasis on i.e. College GPA, EC's, SAT, High School record, ability to pay tuition, etc.

I am considering applying next fall, but looking over the recent 3% admission rate I'm wondering if it's even worth it (the admission decisions would have to arbirtrary to admit only ten people out of hundreds of qualified applicants).

I don't know the answer to your question, but I can tell you that the 3% admissions rate from this past year was MUCH lower than is usual for Vassar. So, basically, don't be daunted by the low number for last year... based on past statistics it seems like last year might have been a bit of an anomaly, possibly due an on-campus housing crunch with the closing of one of the dorms.

Oh, thanks. I was beginning to think that the Website's figures were a deceptive lure. There seem to have been quite a few statistical anomalies in higher education lately. You wouldn't happen to know any transfer students would you littleathiest?

And please excuse any typos from this post and the last, as I'm usually wiped out by the time I get on cc. Thanks again.

I know a few. One transferred from the University of Wisconsin and just graduated as a drama/film double major. The other transferred from a community college near Vassar and is graduating this coming year... I think she's a women's studies major. The third transferred from Swarthmore and graduated this year... sociology major, I think?

Did they enjoy their time, even though their social life and other factors may have been somewhat stunted by the fact that they're two years behind?

I'm wondering the same questions qwilde..I
f I could transfer into Vassar I would be so filled with joy and joyousness, but I'm not quite sure if I would be a competitive applicant at all.
