Are laptops allowed in classes?

@nutmeg3975: I’m not sure if I understand your question correctly. I’m guessing you are asking, if it is easy to manage the GE’s and major requirements if you are a Revelle Student. I’m going to tell you straight up that Revelle has the hardest GE’s of all the colleges and many Revelle students hate it. It usually takes some science majors 5 years to graduate because of the amount of GE’s, but it really depends on if you finish your GE classes in time. It’s probably not going to be easy, but it is manageable.

Without attending college I’m still led to believe they are… I think they even suggest having one

@spacedog: The fastest method is to call them.

@SDLover: Depends on the class. Some professors permit it and some don’t. Some have weird policies like that you have to sit in the front row if you use a laptop, so that you won’t be on Facebook lol. Some classes like math class…there’s no need to have a laptop.

Laptops are really useful outside classes, like to do homework, so you should invest in one anyways.

Are there any hiking or nature trails close to the campus? How accessible is the beach and surrounding city (esp. if you don’t have a car)?

@spacedog: I assume that you read what I wrote previously. I just sent email to admissionsreply@ucsd.edu, saying that I made minor mistakes on my academic history. I will post here what the reply tells me as soon as I receive one.

thanks clark i’ll probably call in a few weeks if i send in the SIR.

and aznfromva I’ve also tried sending emails about other stuff though but they’re not very responsive lol and they sometimes say they want signed letters so I just sent them out to all the UCs I applied to. not a big deal i think because it’s only one class, and both were similarly high level math courses lol

@fringe: UCSD itself is an exercise when you walk around the campus to get to class because it’s so big. There’s like a Eucalyptus tree forest in the middle of the school and there are random canyons like in Warren and Sixth College. Also, there are many hills and trails around campus. Your best bet is Warren Woods which is near ERC’s Rimac and Warren…

The beach/the cliffs/Blacks Beach (nude beach) is literally behind Revelle and Muir college. It takes 5-10 minutes to walk there, but it’s sad that not many people go there. LaJolla Shores is like a 15-30 minute bus ride, but it’s really pretty. The city of San Diego is maybe a 30-45 min bus ride if you want to go to Pacific Beach or Downtown (clubbing/bars). Keep in mind that UCSD is in the rich city of LaJolla and not actually in San Diego itself.

SDLover,

When I was a TA (and this was mostly for history/MMW stuff, mind you), laptops were allowed. However, let me make something VERY clear to all undergrads.

TAs tend to sit in the back. If you spend lecture browsing zappos.com for your new pair of shoes then don’t expect sympathy when TAs call you out in section.

You have been warned.

@spacedog: I should do the same thing…but rather make a phone call as soon as I go back to school as my spring break is over. I honestly am not sure how many mistakes I made, but definitely not straightup BSs…hopefully we both be fine…

Are you allowed to choose your roomate, & can it be someone from another college? I got into Muir, but would like to share a dorm with my friend that got into Revelle.

@hawaii_wahine: Yes, you can request a roommate, but they have to be from the same college as you. You have to wait until your 2nd year if you want to live with people from other colleges.

in response to the “how UCSD puts you in a college debate”, I think they do actually try to place you based on what they see in your app, instead of giving students their first choices based on merit. I only have anecdotal evidence, but it makes sense to me: I wrote about how I love history and writing in one of my essays, and my test scores were from history/english. so although Muir was my first choice, ERC was a slam dunk for them to put me in. to boot, my sister applied and got into 6th college a few years ago, having written about ceramics in one of her essays, and having a helluva lot of art classes on her transcript. so they put her in the artsier college, although it was her last choice and she was an extremely well qualified candidate.

Muir’s freshman orientation literally said its admits were placed there if:

1) They applied for Muir as their first choice
2) Were above an indexed cutoff of people who applied there

The statistics were something like 7/10 people apply to Muir, but only 3/7 actually get in. We had that on our college TShirts or something my second year.

@Oyama

Well I didn’t, na na na na na na! sticks tongue out

I actually just scrolled a bit back and noticed people talking about Muir dorms. Here’s a really ****ty video I made for CC like 3 years ago just showing the layout of the doubles (converted into triples)

hmm I just realized that computer engineering/science isn’t an impacted major lol

@spacedog:yeah because they changed their major after CSE12 or 30 i guess lol

@spacedog: so I got a reply from the office. it says

Dear Seokhyun,

Discrepancies in grades on the official transcript and the application are taken very seriously. This is to inform you that your offer of admission may be withdrawn.

Thank you,
UC San Diego
Office of Admissions

not that I did not expect it, but it doesn’t even have an explanation of what I should do to make up! I’m little bit worried now…So I sent an email to my school’s college counselor (who really loves me and he really has some skills of solving these kinds of college problems) to see if he could do anything. I told him to make phone call to ucsd office. I’ll keep posting here what goes on…
