Any Questions for a Current UCLA Student(s)?

I just have a question about the contract. When I applied I had a 3.86 and worst case scenario it may drop to 3.76(A’s and B’s) after this semester. Is that still considered to be “maintaing the gpa…”? Thanks!

Hi (again),

In regards to the University apartments, do you know which buildings have which type of floorplans (ie 3 people/3 bedroom)? I wish the website would tell us that – I don’t know which ones to take a tour of (if they even have them).

Thanks again for answering questions! :)

Darn I wish I realized this earlier so I could edit my post – if I wanted to contact someone in the Career Center about internship questions do you know who/what type of person would be the best? Like a Career Counselor?

Q1: Do you know the unit limitations for UC-UC transfer students who want to take summer classes at a CC (or, even, can you after a transfer)? Or rather, how many units will be transferred to UCLA? (atm I have 130 units)

Q2: Cellphone reception? The best types? I have Verizon but it sucks butt over at UCR. Is there a superior reception over there?

Q3: Can you name some off-campus apartments around UCLA? Just so I can have some names and look around-ish a bit for rates. (: Thanks~~

QUESTION FOR WHOEVER IS ANSWERING ALL THESE QUESTIONS: (lol)

I just turned turned in my housing application. How soon do you think I will hear from them? I’m really hoping for the 3bd/3ppl … crossing my fingers… please baby Jesus.

^
If I’m not mistaken, they get back to you in July. I think first they give you your offer and then later, if you accept, they’ll give you your roommate(s) name(s) and cell phone number.

To calile89 and ANYONE ELSE WHO IS ASKING ABOUT THE CONTRACT: maintaining the GPA is keeping it 3.0 or above!!!

To dezziner: Like I stated in a previous post, definitely check out Westwood Chateau, that’s the best complex, if you can get into it, stay in it because the rest of the apartments suck. :X! It has studios, to two bedrooms, etc. so I’m sure it will have the one you are looking for! Also, I don’t recommend the career counselors…LOL. Unless they’re specialized in the field you’re looking for, then don’t go to them. I’ve had bad experiences with two of their counselors.

To thepenguinspeaks: I was under the impression that the unit cap for students coming from another 4-year was 129 quarter units…

do we need to submit a picture for the housing application?

@RheeL3: Wait what? Where did you come up with that? o.o This is the first I’ve heard of this. The unit cap was supposed to be so that you’d be in junior standing…?

^
UCLA
With the exception of the School of Nursing (post-licensure), UCLA generally considers a student who has accumulated more than 86 transferable semester units (129 transferable quarter units) at a university to have exceeded maximum units allowable for admission. Such a student will not be admitted. For the College of Letters and Science, a student who completed 86 or fewer UC-transferable semester units (129 or fewer transferable quarter units) at a university then transferred to, and remained exclusively at, a community college does not exceed the maximum units allowable for admission purposes.

Oh and your other question…blah, it really doesn’t matter, AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile, they’ll work. Of course, they won’t work perfectly all the time, no matter what service you have, but they will work.

To calile89: See my post a couple of pages back, I answered the same question.

@RhleeL3: Huh. I saw that, but I thought it just applied for semester, cos I found different numbers for quarter system classes. o: Thanks though~

Sigh. I just thought of another question! For job postings, does UCLA only get listings for jobs in so cal or are there also opportunities for jobs in the Bay Area? I really want to be able to come back to the Bay if at all possible! Not sure if you know anything about that, heh.

How is the aerospace classes

Hi Tiffany,

I had signed up for 3 summer session classes, 1 online class during session A and 2 other classes during session C. It turns out that I had already completed the equivalent to the online class I had signed up for and no longer needed the course. I didn’t want to sign up for another regular on campus course during session C because I didn’t want to be overwhelmed all at once and I also didn’t want to sign up for one during Session A because I didn’t want to have to pay for 12 weeks of housing. With the two classes I was signed up for during session C, I was at 10 units. So I had been searching for an online class to make up for the class I had dropped and didn’t find anything remotely close to what I needed for my proposed majors So, I added a 2 unit intro screen writing class to make my unit count at 12 (full time) because I was worried about how getting just halftime financial aid would work.

My questions are:

When we drop courses before school has even started, do they show up on our transcripts at all? It may be a ridiculous question, because I know at my CC they have never showed up, but I am a little worried about starting off on the wrong foot.

Also, do you think it’s just worth it to be considered half time and take just the 10 units during Session C?

Thanks so much… :)

Hey tiff, how have you been? :)

I wanted to ask you about touring the campus. I know that one has to call and RSVP before going and stuff, but do they assign you a date to attend or do you tell them when you want to come? My folks would be the ones to drive me to the campus so they have to know which day so that they can ask for that day off in advance.

also does UCLA has some kind of transfer admit day like UCSD’s?

@Kidkrasher

They should have sent you a card thingy in the mail. There are special transfer orientations and we can start signing up for them on June 3rd at 3 pm. The days are July 6, 8, 14, 18, 22, 28, and August 8 and 15. It’s $135 and from 7:30 am to 9 pm.

@Rhee What did you think about it, btw?

Thanks :D

@ aninstance

the orientations are a different thing. UCSD and I can’t remember what other school were having a special event on a saturday. It was like a welcome event thing.

To dezziner: It depends where you wanted to subscribe to…I haven’t subscribed to that sort of thing so I wouldn’t know, sorry! I’m sure they offer job postings all over California. I know that all year round they have career days where potential employers come and such.

To IndieRockNRoll: Don’t worry about it, it won’t show up. If you change from full-time to half-time remember that you must inform financial aid ASAP because they will lower your aid amount, the sooner the better because they are working on those right now. I can’t even believe you’re doing full-time, that’s crazy! I think you should slow it down and stick with the 10, but that’s my opinion. I don’t think I could have handled being full-time before I adjusted to everything. Good luck!

To KidKrasher: Basically you call and arrange a date and time where you can come and they’re available. Keep in mind that it’s touring season, lol, so…yeah. Also, I don’t think tours go up the hill, so you would just be exposed to campus, more often than not, north campus. UCLA does have different kinds of “admit day” per say. For me, it was AAP Scholar’s Day, for other’s it might be the Regent’s meet and greet. I’m surprised you didn’t get the AAP Scholar’s Day invite, but anyways to answer your question…I suppose “no”, lol, since there’s a bunch of stuff going on although there are different groups which host something similar to “Admit Day”.

To aninstance: Are you asking how I liked Orientation? That’s a long story…lol.

Hi Tiffany,

Quick question. I was going through “UCLA orientation exposed!” thread from last year and I see people talking about different sessions like 201, 204, etc. What do those numbers mean and how do u get placed in a session? Lol sorry if it’s dumb, just confused when i was going through that thread. Thanks!

Oh and do you know if the courses for Fall are out yet? And if not do you know when they will be out?

^
That thread was so…LOL, I said it was horrible because I remember refreshing every time an update came, it was unnecessary and yet still confusing.

Anyways…to answer your questions, those numbers mean just that…different days. Whenever it was a new session, people would add more to the thread, so I can see how its confusing…it’ll make sense later. When you sign up for your own Orientation, you’ll be put in your own “number”, lol.

Fall courses are not out yet, but because I’m working with my Departmental Student Affairs Officer, I will know the minute it does…yay, lol. I’m sure it’ll be this month since summer is right around the corner for us and we have to get registered before the new students!
