Oh oops, I should work on my reading comprehension skills. Thank you for your patience!

rheel3- Does UCLA have a MIND institute?

I understand that UC Davis has a mind institute. http://www.ucdmc.ucdavis.edu/mindinstitute/

is the mind institute similar to the Semel Institute at UCLA?

^
Yes it is.

hi tiff i hope you’re having a great summer.

I saw one of your previews posts about how some students end up dropping the psychology major because they couldn’t pass psych 100a/b. is it possible to take their place? i mean their dropping out so a space is becoming available right?

also another post of yours says that the schedule for fall classes comes out tomorrow. The thing is that I don’t know which classes I need to take. I’m currently a Philosophy major but let’s say I want to change my major to something else, then what would I have to sign up for classes related to that other major…? (hope im not asking too much)

^
Hello! I still have two weeks to go, I’m not enjoying summer yet! To answer your question, nope. The reason why the Psychology department drops those students who don’t pass 100A&/B is because they want to weed out the dedicated from those that aren’t. They will not admit other students in their place, that wouldn’t be fair.

Once you figure out your major, do to your departmental website and there should be some sort of information/PDF file with the major requirements. Hope it helps!

hello. I am looking for apartments close to the campus. Do students party or make noisy there? I do not enjoy party.

^
I wouldn’t be too familiar with apartments in Westwood/greater LA area to be able to answer your question. I know the off-campus university ones are noisy though. When you go apartment hunting, I’m sure you’ll know.

Thanks for answering questions!
I forgot to include ap scores that I did not pass on the application. Should I let them know?

^
No, if you didn’t pass them–they don’t care. Regardless, when you send over your AP scores, all of your AP scores will show up–1 to 5, so it doesn’t matter.

Argh about the Registrar…I’ll look up what’s happening, but hopefully they get the schedule up. Hopefully I didn’t mix up the dates, either way, I’ll report back!

Hi everyone!

I just got the schedule of classes, but they won’t be up until NEXT Monday, June 6th. I guess I forgot to read that it was released yesterday for SAOs.

My mistake, but it is coming out soon!

Hey Tiff, so I got in Sunset Village but I really wanted to get in the Res Halls…is there any way I can switch? Do I have to accept it anyways and then do the CAR or what? Thanks for your help!

Slightly freaking out I got a triple in sunset village and I can’t think right now but isn’t sunset village supposed to suck? Plus, it just says triple… does that mean it’s private bath? Or does “shared” mean it’s private? Arghhh

Thank you sorry I’ll probably calm down later and research but I just wanted to ask here too :(

Came on for a little bit…even though I have to pull an all-nighter tonight, ugh…anyways!

To ybgirl: You have to accept your offer letter and then during the second week of fall quarter, fill out the CAR, and then go to this thing in Covel where other transfers meet up to want to switch, it’s the only way, sorry. :/

To aninstance: I hate Sunset Village, it’s right by “Rape Trail” you’ll learn that quick, LOL. It’s across from Rieber, so it looks super ghetto to me, LOL. It’s basically, well, the way I viewed it, the spacing is good, but…we’ll you’ll see. If it doesn’t say private, then it’s shared, that’s the way all of the on-housing things are, aside from DeNeve. Sorry about that… Remember to fill out a CAR, but I don’t think it will be THAT bad.

I’ll be back on tomorrow, I have to focus!

Actually you’re a bit off on locations. Sunset village is down by the covel, bcafe area. What you are thinking of next to rape trail is Saxon suites which is really nice.

^
You’re right! I came back on to fix it, LOL. I’m sleep deprived, ahaha.

I don’t like Saxon AT ALL. Courtside is niiiice though, they closed it down and repaired it this year.

I’ll be back later!

Hey Tiff

I’m just wondering how does financial aid cover your housing fees? And which meal plan is the general meal plan for financial aid students (if any). My Friend from UCSD told me that there’s a general meal plan for financial aid students at her school so financial aid covers her meal plan. I don’t want to pick a meal plan where I have to pay extra lol. Thanks!

^
You’re placed on a different “pay plan” because you receive Financial Aid, which is–you pay each quarter once the FA office gives you your money to pay off housing. There is no “general meal plan”, you pick what you want. I have 14P, which I recommend for everyone, but if you don’t eat on campus, then get something lower…that way your housing won’t be as much, up to you.

Okay…I gotta go now, if you have any more questions, I’ll get to them tomorrow.

Hey Tiff!

Quick question regarding the housing payment options.
I chose financial aid as my housing option.
My Gift Aid is around $22,818
My apartment costs $8,778
Tuition is around $11,681 (i believe) (im waiving my health insurance btw)

So just to make sure since i chose financial aid as my housing payment option ucla is gonna take $8,778 out of my gift aid and use that for housing and then $11,681 (roughly) out and use that for tuition which means i will have $2,359 left over for myself?

^
Whatever you have left when you pay your housing is yours to keep. Like I have said in previous posts, this amount depends on your gift aid/scholarships/loans, etc. We all get different amounts of money, but usually they’re used up for textbooks, gas, ETC, expenses, but yep!

Hey Tiff!

Im freaking out! I didnt get my first choice housing option even though I submitted my application early like you suggested.

what I got was this:

WESTWOOD PALM

TWO BEDROOM/THREE PERSONS

Is this option good or bad?? How does two bedroom and two people work?? like one person in one bedroom and the other two in the other bedroom? Is Westwood Palm a good place?how far is it from campus? is it possible to switch?

It also says something about construction.
