any RD applicant got Likely letter ?

likely letter here in nc!

oh and i applied really really early, like back in october or something. BUT my friend didn't send in her peer rec until last weekend, so they got it PROBABLY even after they sent out likely letters

silhouette and charlotte: when are your letters dated?

february 11. it came in the mail on the 13th according to my mom

but there are three rounds of likelies sent out, or so i hear. if you don't get one in the first round there's another one in late february and a third in early march. and most accepted students don't get one. so don't sweat it! =)

so any guesses as to how many they sent out this "wave"?

Dartmouth sends out around 500 likely letters (according to their newspaper). I don't think there are 3 waves -- that is an unfounded myth (as far as I know).

^yeah, i've heard the "three wave" thing for other schools, but i haven't read it anywhere for dartmouth.... damn.

"The letters will go out in three waves — early February, mid-February and early March — as the applications are processed and read. While likely letters are not official acceptances, they essentially allow the College to notify students of their acceptances without jumping the gun on the common Ivy League date for mailing acceptance notices, a procedure replicated by other institutions."

phew! I'm so glad :)

oh, good. except that article is four years old. hopefully they haven't changed their likely letter policy :)

I submitted my application on Nov. 19, and didn't receive an interview.

My letter was dated Feb 11, but I received it on Feb 13.

Waiting for likely letters is definitely not a healthy way to spend your second semester of senior year :P

Too true. I wish I had never heard of them now along with the "early write" policy that some schools have. But now that I have, I'm curious about which schools actually send out likely letters. :( I guess ignorance is bliss sometimes.

Agreed, were you talking about Amherst/Williams when you mentioned early writes? Those are torturing me too, Williams is one of my top choices (as is Dartmouth as of late) and the prospect of a likely letter/early write is really, really tantalizing.
I also wish that I had never known about likely letters. The buzz about them on the Dartmouth forum is too large to ignore, though :P

Did anyone turn in the app by the deadline and still get a likely letter? It seems that most people who got letters submitted earlier. Just wondering if admins sort in order of received date

I got a likely letter and I submitted my app less than a week before the deadline.

can those who received these likelies post stats?

Here is my stats profile:

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/profiles/member_stat_view.html?user_id=219551

Thanks for posting stats, DBicknell. They make me feel a LITTLE better about myself, since I have similar stats to yours (I have a chance thread up in the Dartmouth forum so if you're really curious you can see them). I'm glad someone who isn't God Walking On Earth in terms of stats got a likely letter, it shows that Dartmouth is indeed looking for things OTHER than numbers.
Congratulations again on your letter :)

They love the vals.
