anyone know when the next wave should come out of likelies?

I read somewhere that the three waves each have two weeks in between each wave. I might be delusional though.

Okay, so this is dependent on the date of application submission? I'm just curious because my stats are similar to a lot of applicants who have already received ones (4.0/tied for val/2350/800/800/780), I live in the Pacific Northwest (i.e. geographical AA), and my APUSH teacher wrote a lovely recommendation (he is a Dartmouth Alumni), so trends would suggest I am potentially a candidate for receiving one. However, I submitted the night of the 31st, or early on the 1st for Eastern time. If it is true this is dependent on the date of submission, I can harbor real hope I will receive one.

do Intls get one?

yeah, do intls get one as well?

I got a likely letter, Dartmouth's now a cool brah.

Do people who get likelies from Dartmouth have a really good chance of getting into HYPM?

@174IQPartier

"Do people who get likelies from Dartmouth have a really good chance of getting into HYPM? "

no not really. it just means you app was near perfect (rank, scores, personal, etc) in almost every aspect, but even that often isnt enough for HYPM.

@amciw

"Okay, so this is dependent on the date of application submission?"

i dont think so since i submitted mine a week before it was due but i guess its always possible that 7 days can make a difference. good luck to you!

Dartmouth has sent likely letters to one kid at my high school for each of the past two years. Two years ago: val, class president with lotsa leadership awards, rejected from MIT, ended up at Harvard. Last year: sal, siemens semifinalist, rejected from Princeton, ended up at Harvard.

congrats to all of you! im def. not expecting one but i would die if i got one. ppl from my school don't get into ivy leagues anymore. no one has gotten into H since the 80's!! we normally get a few ppl into penn (im in pa) and some to brown and cornell. never dartmouth as far as i know.

but congrats to all of you!!!

Did anyone who is not in the top 10 get a likely letter ?

I'm top 10-20% of my class I got one.. also submitted on dec 31st.

At my high school, likely letters seem to go the best/most qualified candidates who do not necessarily get in everywhere else. There are people from my High School who have gotten into at least one of HYP and not gotten the likely from Dartmouth (they were all ultimately accepted to D, except one). There are people who have gotten the likely and then ended up not getting into any other ivies (maybe except cornell).

Dartmouth has very specific reasons for giving a likely to certain applicants. For example, girls get them at a much higher rate than guys. (classes end up being 50/50, but they seem to have to work harder to attract girls). There are many different types of people who get them. Some are legacies, some are top debaters, some are siemens finalists. The one unifying characteristic of the people who get the likelies is that they are extremely qualified and deserving of them.
