-My guidance counselor I also expect an excellent essay. She described me as one of the hardest working students she has ever had.
-My college essay will be about how my experiences in an affluent town next to a notoriously violent and poor town has sparked my interest in government. (Coworkers deported, Witnessed acts of racism, etc.) and I am a very good writer. I am very critical of my own writing and will not send in anything less than excellent

Can you let us know a bit more about what you’re looking for? There are tons of schools with good programs in those areas. What do you want in terms of size and location? Are you more interested in universities or liberal arts colleges? What other preferences do you have?

Big, medium, small? Urban or rural?

American, second the suggestion of Dickinson.

There are thousands of colleges and universities in the US. You need to help us out.

(1) Large research university, small-to-middle research university, small liberal arts college preferences?
(2) City, suburban, rural preferences?
(3) Geographic area preferences?

I suggest you select the SuperMatch link on the upper left to help you clarify those qualities that matter most to you.

My son had a similar unweighted GPA, but was in all AP/IB classes, and had 4.0-ish weighted. His background and interests were very similar to yours. He applied to loads of colleges. Check back once you have some actual test results. Will you need a significant amount of financial assistance? Do you like your own state flagship university as a safety? Are you more interested in International Relations or in US Government and Public Policy? Don’t feel you have to focus your energy on “brand name” schools, either, especially if you have your sights on graduate or law school down the road. My son opted for the best financial deal he could, which will give him the freedom to pursue unpaid internships instead of scrambling to earn money in every free moment and incurring any debt.
