Im going to my first career fair next week. I've been told to prepare a 30 second commercial about myself pretty much. Does anyone know some good approaches to walking up and establishing one of these? Also, what about bringing personal business cards?

Bring copies of your resume to the career fair. Dress professionally. Personal business cards are optional, but make sure you talk to a potential employer with your "30-second commercial" speech so that they can remember your face when they have a copy of your resume.

Wear an entire suit! Not just the pants and the shirt with a tie. Many people have gone to the career fairs at my school, and they get rejected at the door because of the lack of a jacket.

Personally I think this is silly and pretentious, but we have to deal with things like this...

That's interesting to hear. How do you know it's because of the lack of a jacket?

You don't have to sell yourself, you just need to ask good questions.

I don't have an entire suit...at least not yet. I'm planning to get one after I move in and get settled which is like tomorrow. I'm not sure if I'll be able to find one near campus though, so hopefully I'll apply to enough places for at least one of them to like me without a jacket. But I'll definitely have one during the interview.
