<p>are there any upenn students from the south? how was the transition? I've never been up north before.</p>
<p>My roommate is from Texas, and one of the girls across the hall is from Florida; the only thing I've heard from them is that it's a lot colder up here in the winter.</p>
<p>I'm from the south. It's cold here. In addition, you might notice that there is a bit more racial/class tension for some reason. The South has actually come a long way in creating harmony among racial groups, and there are some cases here in Philly where people treat you badly because you're white and well-dressed. But overall, people here are more lively - they think faster, act faster, and walk faster, in my opinion. I think that has a lot to do with being in a city rather than the North, but nonetheless, that's what you can expect. Oh, and things are actually in walking distance. You do not need a car at all.</p>
