Anybody from San Antonio, Texas?

I'm just saying because I would like to meet someone who knows the city, in which I will be enrolling soon in college. I live in such a small town, and I just don't know how I will deal with a big city!!! I don't know anybody from there.

I'm from Dallas, but I think you will find San Antonio to be a friendly city. It is majority Hispanic now. The River Walk area is popular- restaurants and some shops along the river. The surrounding area is pretty- the Texas Hill Country.

Thanks for the information!

Hi Bridgette! I'm currently a senior in high school, and I've lived in San Antonio all my life. Which college will you be going to? Trinity University? I can probably answer nearly any question you have about...well...anything here! Feel free to ask some specific questions, because I'm not really sure where to start.

Hi Sarah, I'm glad you are form San Antonio. I was starting to worry. But anywayz, I wanted to attend to UTSA this fall, and I just wanted to know a bit about the town to get accostumed to it. What I'm really concerned is how hard is to travel downtown, are there places that are friendly where you can hang out and meet people? Are there a lot of violence? (what I mean is, is it safe to walk around downtown without being extra careful?) cuz I belive that UTSA have separated classes and campus, that you either have to walk, drive, or get in the bus. San Antonio is a big place, and i just wanted to know what is it that I have to worry, so I can be prepared.

Bridgette, I am a parent and We live in Sa. SA is a lovely place and you will find compared to other cities of it's size that it's quite easy to get arround. From the main UTSA campus to the downtown campus you hop right on I 10 and in 15 minutes or so your'e downtown. Now if it's in morning traffic it may take a bit longer. For the size it's quite safe downtown if you don't get off the beatin path. good luck I think you'll find that you may never want to leave once you get acclamated.

Prepparent, thanks for you information. You really have convinced me. I feel more relieved. Thanks again.

Hey Bridg, you will do just fine here. Good Luck and keep on top of the studying. I would assume a city this size can be a bit of a distraction for a college student.

Sorry I didn't reply sooner, Bridgette; I haven't been online in a couple of days--for once! I've never felt unsafe walking downtown. Of course, I've never strolled down any back alleys at 3 AM, either. Like prepparent, I'm willing to bet that San Antonio is generally friendlier and safer than most big cities--i.e., New York, where I'm hoping to go for college. I can't tell you much about UTSA itself, because I don't live in that area or go out there much. We do have a pretty decent transit system, VIA, but if I were you I'd get a car or befriend someone who has a car because San Antonio really just isn't that big of a public transportation city, although it is improving and expanding. Let's see...as for places to hang out and meet people...hmm. I must admit, that's not really my area of expertise--most people I've met have been through school or preexisting friends. If you're into western dancing, the two main dance halls are Leon Springs (not too far from UTSA, I think) and Cowboy's. If you're more of a punk rock person, there's a club near downtown SA called The White Rabbit that's a pretty popular place with some of my classmates (don't know how many college kids frequent it, though). There are quite a few dance clubs, too, many of which are 18+, but a few of which are 21+. We have a monthly art event, First Friday, which would be a great place to meet people and buy unique purses, accessories, and artwork while listening to local bands. The interesting thing about San Antonio is that the people tend to have a small-town, friendly vibe despite the metropolitan, busy atmosphere. For example, the way people drive here compared to, say, the way people in San Francisco drive, is decidedly less aggressive. I hope I've been of some help, Bridge, and be sure to ask any more questions that you might have.

Hey Bridgette I have lived in San Antonio ALL my boring and tedious life...j/k. But I will be going to college soon so I can finally get out of this OVEN we call SA. I live by one community college called Northwest Vista. You'll love it here in San Antonio if anything you can catch a few good Spurs games at the SBC center.

We have a large Hispanic population and we are a Hispanic culture dominated city. You'll always have something interesting to do here in San Antonio so don't freak out. San Antonio has the most friendly and polite people you will ever meet. I only noticed this when I went to Nevada and they kept trying to speak to me in broken Spanish and started looking at me funny. They were just so rude which is such a big difference from down here.

If you like the water there's the Schlitterbahn water park (our all-time favorite - it took 3 days to enjoy it all), and tubing on the Guadalupe River. Great food too.
