Anybody get off UIUC's WAITLIST?

Please post your SAT/ACT and off wait list date

I’m just curious, what is your SAT/ GPA/AP?

UIUC does have an acceptance rate of 70%…

@dragoon998 i dont really think you should post condescending things like that; not every individual is going to be very academically gifted, nor great test takers. And sometimes someone may do well in these areas and things just happen with acceptance. Plus Uof I may have a high acceptance rate but it still is relatively difficult school to be accepted to compared to most other illinois unversities.

You know, UIUC has a soft spot for legacies, URMs, and first generation college students. I am none of those. I got a 27 on my ACT, but that doesn’t make me incapable. I know legacies who got into DGS with a class rank 30 people below mine, a 25 and maybe 2 extracurriculars. Oh yeah, and this person probably took like, 3 honors/AP classes. I’ve taken 13 in the course of high school. I have 5+ extra curriculars, so I would not consider myself underqualified for UIUC.

I really was just curious.
College is not just about having fun you know, people are accepted for a reason. If, for example, a high school dropout was accepted into a great college like UIUC, then he would most likely drop out again from the stress and rigor of classes. Same thing with other people… if you’re not qualified, then don’t go. It’s better to go to a college that fits you.

Also, to be honest, high school is not that hard. The only hard high schools are the ones with over 30% Asians in CA. (I’m not being racist I’m Asian too). If someone does not do very well in high school and gets, say, a 2.0 GPA, then he probably would not do well at UIUC or any other top colleges either. Also, if someone took all regular classes with only some honors classes in high school, and gets a 4.0GPA, the good colleges would not want him either mainly because that person did not challenge himself with hard classes and the admissions officers would not know if he would succeed at UIUC.

@dragoon998

I don’t like to talk about them.

Where there are 70% applicants admitted, also 30% applicants WL or Rej. Right?

Not all students have a SAT score more than 2300. BTW, I am an international applicant.

@chenxi
lol you don’t need a 2300 for UIUC

UC Berkeley has like a 10% acceptance rate and most people have 1900+ on their SATs.
According to collegeboard.com, UIUC’s median SAT scores are:
reading: 540-660
math: 690-780
writing: 590-680

I’m also an international applicant. we were in the same applicant pool.

@dragon

thx for your data

hehe

@dragoon If you’re implying that everyone on the wait list is either lazy or underqualified then that is just really sad. If they were underqualified they would have been outright rejected. And who are you to say that every other high school besides the ones you consider challenging is easy? It depends on the teacher, the curriculum, the grading system… There are so many factors. I know many people with low GPAs have a bad start but progress through their sophomore -senior years.
My friend was wait listed rat UIUC. She developed a type of cancer and spent many days out of school. She is one of the most intelligent, hardworking people I know.
Your assumption can be true for many people, but to label everyone on the wait list that way is adbsurd. Not everyone who was accepted is a "genius " either. My friend was accepted with a 17 ACT but she isn’t the brightest crayon in the box and doesn’t possess the drive to succeed.

@SOSO
I never said that EVERYONE on the waitlist were either stupid or lazy…
Luck is also a huge factor in college admissions, so some of you people could have had a cranky admissions person read your application

As to the original question, it is premature. UIUC will not be making offers to anyone on the waitlist until after it knows how many who have been offerred admission have accepted the offer, which it will not know until May.

@drusba

According to past years records, It shows that UIUC will release many WL offer in late-april

@LightSpira, what was the intended major if you don’t mind sharing?

MY son was deferred in December and accepted at the end of January. His first choice major was mechanical engineering (along with thousands of others!). He got accepted into Industrial Engineering 2nd choice). He had a 31 ACT and a 3.85 GPA (not weighted)
