Anybody hear back from U washington yet?

i'm a california bay area resident, yeah i dunno i just saw that a lot of people were in the 70's in this forum so yeah. Here's the site I used to compute my AI - http://www.hecb.wa.gov/Research/issues/admissionsindexinfo.asp

You are correct with your AI. But anyway, there are several on this board in your situation. My d has an AI 64 and has had an "intitial review decision pending" since first part of January. She is in state.

collegeconfusion, admission to uw is getting more competitive every year and the kids who used to think that they could easily get into uw are starting to worry. a lot of these kids are applying to wsu because they know that it is easier to get into so i wouldnt say that uw is the easy school to get into now.

it's not easy and it's not tough...if you realized u wanted to go to the UW ur sophmore year then u could certainly get in easy if u worked a little.

What are my chances at UW?

GPA - 2.56 (un-weighted). (I know... ouch)

Out of state, go to public school where I take all the toughest courses. (AP & GT whenever available)

Got a 3.86 the first two quarters of senior year (Taking AP Calc BC, Euro, and Physics)

I took the SATs twice, got a 1250 the first time and a 1390 the second (690 Verbal, 700 Math)

Have an aunt, an uncle, and two cousins all of whom are on the faculty at UW, along with a dad who went there for his graduate degree.

Being that my GPA is not stellar and I am from out of state, I know they are not very good. The only things I have going for me is the uptrend in my grades at the end of junior and the beginning of my senior year, and the legacy stuff. Is that enough to give me any shot at all, or should I prepare myself for the inevitable rejection letter?

seven.. that's not always the case. i have plenty of friends who've wanted to go to uw ever since sophomore year and they did not get accepted. these people took ap/honors classes, were involved w/ school and community and were what some people think, your obvious shoe in for uw. their sat scores or essays might have hurt them but all i'm saying is that i dont think uw is just a school that you'll get into if you just "worked a little."

if u wanna go to the UW...don't take any AP/honors classes. Getting a 3.7+ isn't too hard with normal classes and going through 1-2 SAT books should give you 1160+ which is good enough for the uw. If you write a ****ty essay then it obviously means that you don't wanna go there... . In my opinion uw is a pretty easy school to get into if you do all your hw and study for your tests. You don't need no AP classes and try to get A's in them. My high school was like top 25 in WA for GPA differental from high school to uw. I didn't really work too hard but I still maintained good grades (no APs). My only mistake was that I didn't take the SATs serious enough (took em once in november).

If all you want to do is get into UW, I agree with seven, do not take honors or AP or what not, take whatever you need to complete core requirements and get easy classes to get that 4.0, then you can get low SAT's and get in. But that is only for this year and maybe next year. As everyone knows, UW is moving towards a comprehensive review for eveyrone, so I would take AP and honors if you aren't graduating within the next 2 years... :o

So you guys are saying I should have asked the principal to waive my d's P.E. requirements; and she didn't need to take Honors Science; Honors Biology; Marine Biology; Chemistry and Physics and all the other AP courses?

They certainly will be very helpful for college because she will know a lot of stuff. AP courses are tough and you get a lot of things out of them but for getting into the UW you don't need it (edit: that is if you have a high GPA...because if you have like a 3.4 then you better hope you got a few APs under your belt).

(if you are not Noornigar, please disregard this post :)

Taking AP and honors is always good no matter for which college. It's just that if you want to be a slacker and have the easy way out, or in for this matter, you don't have to push yourself with AP and honors. That is, of course, considering you are able to get high grades in regular classes. I'm not down-playing the importance of AP/honors, because they do help you out in college cause you are academically more advanced than regular students, but simply to get into UW, stick with regular classes.

This is because the public universities in Washington are so systematic in their admissions right now that if you get a 4.0 with tons of AP and honors and ECs, while another person with a 4.0 taking regular classes and nothing special, both are equal because both have similar numbers. But they are moving away from this systematic approach and to the comprehensive, looking at AP, the school's academic rigor, etc...

Since we are already done, and we've applied and everything it doesn't really matter, but the important message is that: future applicants SHOULD take AP and honors.

yea if ur applying in about two years I would strongly recommend u take atleast 2 AP classes but don't go crazy and take all the AP's that ur school offers because your GPA is gnna go bye-bye which means ur chances to the UW are gnna go bye bye.

I can't believe the uw thread is so popular I didn't even think this was a good school!

It's not a WOW school but it's top 3 in WA and like top 100 in nation (i'd guess somewhere between 75-100)

Have many people gotten rejected after all the status changes on the website, currently?

no one has gotten rejected yet

I wonder how long it takes to get your decision?

I finished applying to UW and the Honors program on the 15th......

My stats are:
SAT: 1370
SAT IIs: they dont matter to UW, so i am not posting them
ACT: 30
GPA: UW-3.75, W-3.91
Taken hardest courses available in my school including all the honors classes they offer (5) and about 3/4 of all the AP classes they offer (5)

Good ECs....

I am fairly certain that I will get in (Is this a right assumption?) but I dont know if I will get any good scholarships......I live right next door to Washington-Idaho, and I really wish UWash was part of the WUE program, so I can pay a lot less.....

I heard it's extremley hard to get into honors program so I would be surprised if u got in honors but u ll get in regular.
