Anyone accepted for class of 2010?

PM, we passed like ships in the night with our posts. Yep, I'm thrilled to have one more! My first thoughts, were of course, one more to out number my best Coastie pal.
Forgot to add that son is 3rd co Plebe. No sport..... But I'm hoping to have one to root for someday....

JM we have a very busy listserv as you know so only lurkers such as myself come on here. If MMA needs assistance in setting one up I will be happy to pass that along to our listmasters. But you're right I could use some back up!

Goingboeing is from Top Gun territory! Welcome! I love all the academies and cadets(ha!) even those who are in the chess club...HA HA!

Jamzmom, I assume you're Ian's mom? Johnston? I'm in a 3co Plebe, too; I live right across the hall from Mr. DDR. Heh..

NO. I don't know that crazy kid! Well. So much for trying to keep a private name private. Boss posts pictures of him & now everyone knows about his little dance dance revolution addiction.... Sigh

Hi ViolinistSupreme! I'm teasing you! Yep, he has a little problem doesn't he? Hope you got to see the video production of my little DDR freak in action when it went out in all the emails. It was funny as all get out. Look. I begged him not to do the crazy dancing thing up there but he wouldn't listen. Next time he does it, go down to the room below him so you can tell me what it sounds like. I'm dying to know if he's gonna get his butt beat from the guys who live below him. If you have some duct tape, it would be fun to go around him a couple of times with it to see if he can still do it with none of that wild arm action. If you don't have any tape, I'll send you some in the next box I send to him. Just tell him, "Hey, your mom sent me something" & get it out. I'd want pictures of course.

Ha! Major "outing" of our favorite mid...Violinist will see to it that IJ gets razzed for this one.

Yeps. They are the Bad Boys of Company 3 & I feel sure there will be a novel written about them someday. They're AWESOME!

They should package up Mr. DDR and take him into the city and pit him against NYC kids. They could make some money on him. He was beating all the NYC street kid's scores when I saw him play once.

I feel welcome, thanks. I'm afraid I am responsible for 'Violinist'. Please don't encourage him to do things with duct tape. Ncdad directed us to this link. I couldn't help but post when I saw the confusion for the kid that couldn't decide between USMMA and USNA. I related on almost every level. I was a swimmer in college, a Navy pilot and now an airline pilot. Every retired Admiral in town recommends USMMA if you want to fly. As a former flight instructor, I have seen many a KPer come through. But the key, as almost everyone has pointed out, is the "options" factor. When you graduate from the Naval Academy, you're probably going into the Navy for 7 years (possibly more, if you are flying). What an awesome arrangement to get to graduation and still have the opportunity to pick your lifestyle. What most people don't realize is they can go into the Air National Guard and still have a life outside the military. Something to look into, anyway. I've talked too long...next..

goingb....

You wrote, "What most people don't realize is they can go into the Air National Guard and still have a life outside the military."

You are right, i sure did not know that one..thanks.

"I'm afraid I am responsible for 'Violinist'". Well, I guess I'm not alone in the blame for having a bad boy of co. 3. I can now share in the heavy responsibility...
GoingBoeing - meet Boss51, rival, friend, & parent of a Cadet at the Coast Guard Academy. He has to hang with us as there are no parents to watch his back in his own forum. Except me :). We we're talking earlier about options at USMMA. Wasn't aware about Air National Guard. The more I learn, the more phenomenal this place becomes. I truly hope you can stick around and post some more of that great information. As "our kids'" academy doesn't have a list-serve (and my kid never answers my questions) for parent's to learn from, this is pretty much it. We've a few parents that post here including a KP Alumn & a few KP kids on occassion. I think USMMA is the least understandable academy out there. Hope you can help. I know more now than when the boy was dropped off at Indoc and its because of the kind parents here who shared information. By the way, does your kid still have his/her wisdom teeth?

ViolinistSupreme - ever read "101 uses for duct tape"? Jamz is #92.
I see you smilin' PrayerfulMom. Its just the thought of it, isn't it?

"does your kid still have his/her wisdom teeth?"

Not this again, haha. Just so everyone knows, I actually wrote the dental officer at KP to get a definitive answer on this issue, but as of yet have not heard back. Will update when I get an answer for all y'all

I still have my wisdom teeth in, and unless they start causing me problems, I don't plan on removing them any time soon.

Ian is definitely a funny kid to have on the same deck as me. A little harsh on the ear drums when he's marching outside, though.... heh

That is so gooood to know that there are kids that still have them. This has been a big topic of concern here. A few of us were told by the Academy that it is required to have them removed before Sea Year.

KP - If you recall, I set up the appointment & let the Jamzster know about it. Said something about they'll have to find me first & I'm keeping them, then some words that burnt my tender mommy ears. Come to find out, he is smarter than me. Through his ingenuity, one day after I told him the news, he had managed to have the dentist up there look at his Xrays & she gave him the official ok to have it done next Xmas. Pretty slick huh? The dental officer (Coastie) is sort of a mentor so he's learning to use his connections. LOL

ViolinistSupreme - no worries. You have connections. :)

I still have my wisdom teeth, or third molars as they are referred to here. All I had to do was get a dentist take and examine my oral xrays before I reported here and write a letter telling the Medical Health Clinic ("Patton Health Clinic") that I was good to go with wisdom teeth. Offically referred to as the third molar extraction form. Unless they changed the rules this year, you should be fine so long as they won't pose a problem.

LeadinUSMC - Bless your pea-pickin' heart. Hope you're doing well. Long time no see buddy. Yea, I kept a copy of that third molar extraction form & looked it over again the other day. Its says, more or less, that by signing it, we wave the academy from any financial responsibility for having the third molars removed if they should become a problem. Then it freaked me out because I was told that it is mandatory that you guys had to get your wisdom teeth removed before sea year regardless if they gave you trouble or not. Then another parent told me the same. Then I made my first phone call ever to the Academy & asked the dental service place & they confirmed it. Doesn't make sense to me. Think I'll stay out of it. Hey, I can tell you exactly where the Jamz is tonight & when he will be getting back to the Academy. With ViolinistSupreme's help, you two could get them out with that wicked little knife they gave you up there. A few saws here & a few saws there & this would be done & over with. BTW, I need all four out and sent to me for tooth fairy purposes. I'll get some big bling for them.

Guess we prolly outta be quiet about it huh before we stir up the waters.... LOL

Let us know KP! :)

I recieved a FULL appointment to go to the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy!! My congresswomen called me to congratulate me in person!!! All I could say is WOW!--Hannah

Now, I want to visit the campus during the spring break.

Congrat's Hamarcelo!

I would definately recommend visiting the campus. I would definately try to go there when class is in session. The school has a completely different feel when there are midshipmen present. That and it will allow you to go to classes and the such. Just call up the admissions office and they can set you up on on overnight. If you play an instrument and want to join the band ask for a host in Band Co; otherwise, ask for a host that is not in Band Co. Again you will get completely different views of the school depending on where you stay.

HANNAH HANNAH HANNAH!! Congrats!! You have such good offers on the table. You must be beside yourself. Enjoy this day Ms. Appointment!! Let all of us know if we can help with your questions & concerns. Proud of you!!

Does anyone know if there is some sort of orientation for principal candidates in the spring?

Since USMMA is pretty small in comparison, most orientation is done one on one during overnight candidate visits. Since it is quite a haul for you, DO make a point of visiting while school is in session. For - other details, contact your local parents and alum association - they are quite active in TX, especially around Houston.

I have also been accepted to USMMA
