I am very interested in UMich. As an OOS applicant I am just wondering what stats I need to have or close to them. Assuming my ECs are strong but not incredible, what GPA, SAT, etc. should I shoot for before I even think of Michigan?
One data point among many: My OOS son got a quick RD engineering acceptance with an unweighted 4.0, 36 ACT, and 1580 SAT. He was happy to get in, because I’m sure a number of applicants had similar stats. As I understand it, however, Michigan isn’t simply focused on stats.
@MikeNIke101 here you go… https://www.engin.umich.edu/about/facts/ this is from last year. Look towards the end for the stats.
Are you looking at CoE or LSA?
3.9 and 33/1500, but kids get in with 31/32 as well. Just harder these days than ever for OOS kids. (Remember, Michigan sees HS 90% and up as 4.0. Not so when you get there tho.)
Depends on your school. If they typically accept a dozen kids from your school, Naviance is your best look at what you need.

Here is lsa stats. My oos had 3.95 unweighted with 34 Act /1540 Sat
If it matters I’m not planning on engineering I want to major in finance.
If you are looking at Ross, it is even more competitive. Having high stat may get you in LSA which is the first step for Ross.
I got into LSA, 34 ACT, 4.2 weighted GPA, about 3.99 UW (One A- in precalc sophomore year). My ECs are by no means extraordinary, so don’t worry if you haven’t done something you believe will stand out outside of school. Good luck!
I got in EA this year with just a 31 ACT, 1410 SAT, ~3.9UW GPA, 4.2W GPA, with plenty of A-s my freshmen and sophomore years. The thing is, I showed improvement in my transcript which they find very important, I got straight As with no A-s my junior year (while taking 5 APs and 2 honors). And I have lots of ECs and lots of strong leadership positions, and I also believe my essays were strong and made it clear UMich was my top choice. I think the point I’m trying to make here is that Michigan isn’t kidding when they say they do a holistic review process. My test scores and GPA were probably fairly low this year considering the EA applicant pool, but they looked at the other aspects of my application too. Good luck!
