Anyone applying to Jacobs University Bremen?

@Mac546

The exchange experience in Germany will surely bring you advantage! Though without taking a test you can just tell them in your application form that you are a good speaker.

I took an interview with an admission officer of Jacobs and he told me score isn’t everything but a component part. So just don’t worry too much.

@stevenlyan

Yeah I am hoping it does. My exchange is what inspired me to want to apply to an international university anyways. Germany is such an amazing country. I never got to visit Bremen, but one of my German sisters lives in Hamburg, which is nearby, and it is my favorite German city.

Jacobs seems to be a very well rounded school, meaning they look at all parts of an applicant, which seems to be great, scores aren’t everything.

@Mac546

I have never been there and can’t wait to see how’s like. I start learning German BTW. It’s quite hard for me.

@stevenlyan - I’m worried I might end up in 40000-50000 euro loan if they don’t give me scholarships and grants :P. I started applying to yale-NUS but ended up not sending it as I think it’s very hyped just like NYUAD. Which college is your first preference?

@thunderboltsid

Loans can be repaid in 10yrs, so students have enough time. But mostly they will give at least thousands of euros in some forms of aid (some seniors even gut full-scholarship of 20k euros).

Of course it’s JUB. Admission Office said that they would notify me around Dec.15th. So I am a bit nervous these days. I just hope to get the admission and have a merry Christmas :D

@stevenlyan
Yes German is a difficult language. There are many similarities between German and English, but the grammar is so different. That is where I have the most problems.

@Mac546

Well the grammar is acceptable but the pronunciation is really difficult for me, especially that of “r”. I just can’t get it right. And the genders are just so confusing.

@stevenlyan

Yeah the R is hard for me too. The genders, well I learned German without actually learning all those rules. Usually I can guess right, but not always

@Stevenlyan - All the best for your admission decision. I hope I get in too with decent aid. By the way, German is difficult but not as difficult as French. So be grateful that Jacobs is not in France :P. BTW I also have trouble pronouncing ‘Y’ - ‘ipsilon’ and yeah the genders are confusing and so is formal and informal speech.

What are you guys’ intended majors?

I want GEM and ESS. This morning I received an invitation to an online seminar. Did you receive something like that?

It’s from ESS BTW.

@stevenlyan I want to study GEM or ISS

@stevenlyan I plan to study EECS or ESS, I also received the ESS webinar invite. I’ll attend it to see whether ESS is for me or not. If not, EECS all the way.

@stevenlyan @Mac546 @prostozina I received decision letter from Buffalo and Drexel a couple of days ago, I’m kind of confused with Jacobs and colleges in US. Though the diversity is high, the prestige is nowhere in sight. What do you guys think about this? Also, I sent a message to Jacobs FB account asking about the employment prospects of graduates and they did not reply. They have always responded to my queries other than employment prospects.

@thunderboltsid

JUB is a young university. You have to take this into account. No university grows prestigious in just one decade. There are not much stats about the employment rate of JUB online, at least I found none. But the facility and faculty of JUB seem to be pretty good. And it does have several unique features like the transdispilinary teaching method and the diversity. So I think it’s just a matter which is up to candidates themselves.

@stevenlyan @thunderboltsid

If you guys are accepted, do you know where you’d want to live? Or is it random. That I don’t really understand, the housing process I mean.

@Mac546

It seems students can make their choice. For me I would choose Krupp. Some Chinese seniors recommend it. :)

@stevenlyan

oh okay, I have no idea which I would choose

@thunderboltsid

Did you attend the webinar yesterday? How do you feel about the major? Some features are quite attractive, from my point of view.

@Mac546 @thunderboltsid @prostozina @racheal52

Guys I just received an email from Jacobs and I got admitted!Can’t put my feelings into words right now.

And wish the best for all of you! Hope to see you guys in Bremen!
