I am an alumna interviewer. I was just contacted three days ago by the Alumnae/i office with a second list of prospective students. I called the last one today, and scheduled our interview for Saturday.

Vassar wants our interview materials submitted by Feb 28th, but I've been doing this for years, and extensions are often provided for students who request interviews late.

I attended the Vassar chat in December, and the admissions people told us that the interview was more for us to know Vassar, and 99.99999% of the time, the interviewers LOVE us, so it doesn't really play a role in the admission.

Are you sure there is an alum in your area to interview you? I don't know where in KY you are, but it is possible that the alum interview network isn't quite as well organized there. I am an alum in the SE, but not in KY. You might consider contacting the local alumnae group to see if they are coordinating the interviews. I know it shouldn't be this much work for you, and I am sorry this is happening. Don't give up. Its a great place!!

Thanks, jym! Yes, there is an alum in our area who does interviews. My daughter and I met her last fall at a local college fair. She was very nice and took down all of Rachel's contact information. Rachel has, in recent weeks, emailed and phoned Vassar admissions regarding an interview. By phone (a week ago) she was told not to worry, that someone would contact her soon. But with the deadline for interviews coming up very soon, I'm beginning to think it's not going to happen. ... Rachel has visited Vassar, but mainly wanted an interview to show her high level of interest. ... How would she go about contacting a local alumnae group? I suppose she could call Vassar to inquire.

oops-- you need a password to access the info re: the clubs. Are you in Louisville or central KY? I can get the name of the club pres and send it to you by PM.

bethievt--We haven't heard word one from Vassar as of 11:00 tonight. I called the day before yesterday and got the same old line--someone would be calling to set up an interview before the end of the month. Not sure I believe that ... She also told me that the interviews were in no way crucial for admissions. Hope she's right.

Sorry-- I didn't PM you-- my bad. I looked in the aavc (alumnae and alumni of vassar college) website and it doesn't list the alumnae officers-- only tells me there are some in Lexington, Versailles, Paris, Richmond and Ashland. So I tried the Louisville link and it didn't list officers either. That's odd, because I thought I saw offices listed last week when I checked. The site is acting a little funky-- the regional map links arent working correctly. So it may be under repair or something. I am so sorry this is happening. You could makeone last call to the Admissions office. But rest assured, the interviews are a bonus, but don't have any significant bearing on the admission decision (unless you showed up with a gun or something. THAT might not get you a favorable review...)

addendum--
Still no luck getting the alum club officers names/contact info, but I did access the guidelines for conducting admissions interviews, complete with suggested q's to ask :D Sorry.... cant tell..... :D

jym626--Thanks for your trouble in this matter! At this point, we're not too worried. I'm just curious why a local alum never called my daughter for an interview, particularly since she requested one on her application, by phone, and by email! But if an interview has no significant bearing on admission, then it's all OK. I hope! Thanks again!
