<p>My stats are 1350 ACT/3.65 GPA/Top 20%. Never bothered to send my higher ACT score.</p>
<p>D has not received acceptance yet, but she applied late.</p>
<p>My d got her invite with her acceptance, too. She’s going 1/16- they sent an all day schedule.</p>
<p>I was originally invited for the Scholarship Day on 1/30, but I raised my ACT score so I am now attending on 1/23.</p>
<p>I’m a little nervous for it, but Ohio Northern is my top school and I have visited it twice thus far.</p>

<p>Registration is at 9 am and there is a welcoming session for students while parents have refreshments. Then parents have their welcoming session and students are split up into groups (A and B). Group A has their written evaluation while Group B has their interviews. After that is done, Group A has their interviews and Group B has their written evaluation. During this time, parents meet the different college deans and have a financial assitance information session. At 12:45 parents and students have lunch. At 1:45 parents and students have a student affairs session. At 2:45 is a campus tour.</p>

<p>My D participated in the comp day - she is a junior now and is actually WORKING the comp days with the admissions department!</p>
<p>Take the day seriously cause there is some “serious” $$$ to be had these days! There is a range of scholarship $$$ they may give - from slightly higher than your original merit aid to somewhere in the low 20’s or so (at least a couple of years ago). If you are seriously considering the school, it is definitely worth your time.</p>
<p>Don’t think that parents NEED to go, but would probably enjoy the day.</p>
<p>I don’t know if they have to come or not. But like abasket said, they probably would like to. Unless they’ve already visited with you or something.</p>
<p>abasket - how did your daughter do? was her merit award increased a lot? the most i could get from the day is 24k and I really, really need it to be able to go :/</p>
<p>Starstruck, my daughter did not receive the “biggie” like 24K, but it was an increase from whatever was originally offered. Honestly, we were a little confused how they actually “weighted” the scholarships. One of her friends who thought she didn’t really do well during the interview or the essay got something like 21K - go figure. </p>
<p>I’ll be honest and say “don’t count on” the bigger over 20K - I think those are pretty limited and you will see that a fair amount of students attend the comp days. On the other hand, ONU may also offer you grant $$ in addition to scholarship $$. That can help. </p>
<p>It’s a wonderful school and we/she has been SO SO happy with it!</p>
<p>DD is going to the 1/30 one. To the people who haven’t been accepted yet, I’m pretty sure I read somewhere that invites were sent to people who were accepted before 11/30. We almost missed the RSVP because my daughter filed the letter before I read it. We received the confirmation email though prior to Christmas.</p>

<p>Anyways, got an official itenerary today. Getting excited :)</p>
<p>My D got a phone call today saying that she was accepted and inviting her to scholarship day on the 16th. Her app was on the later side, and then the school was late in sending transcripts, but we were happy to get the phone call!</p>

<p>OWU is having two; we are going to the one on 2/7 and 2/8.</p>
<p>I thought I would post a breif summary of my experience here for future prospective ONU students:</p>
<p>In the Engineering scholarship competition day, we had three different parts: an interview with a professor and two students, a math test, and an essay on a topic that was broadly related to engineering but had more of a “how would you use your degree to help the world?” slant.</p>
<p>Obviously, the interview was an interview. Nothing exciting there, but it was interesting how the focus of questions was less on “Why ONU?” and more “why does engineering interest you/what skills would make you a good engineer?”.</p>
<p>The math test was over Algebra concepts. And I mean ALL algebra concepts. They provide you with a calculator, paper, etc. so DON’T bring such materials, but do be prepared to be tested over things such as matricies, logarithms, and some other more obscure math topics. After taking the test, the general consensus was that it proved to be quite difficult, but IMO it really was not that bad so long as you studied your ACT/SAT math well. This test was only mandatory for engineering majors, while all the other college divisions only consisted of an essay and interivew.</p>
<p>The essay I already covered, but I will say the timeframe was about 45 minutes. This essay is probably best approached in a 5 or 7-paragraph essay format, and not in a free prose style. So basically treat it like an SAT essay. </p>

<p>My dd is a high school junior and we are visiting ONU in March. The tuition and fees are more than we are able to afford but perhaps with merit aid this school would be affordable with us. Does anyone know stats needed for merit aid? Is this school known for award a good amount of aid? We have heard great things about the school and are very excited to visit. I am happy to know about the scholarship competition day and we’ll be on the lookout for it next year.</p>
<p>There are different levels of merit aid starting (don’t quote me) in the mid-20’s and going up (with more $$ offered for higher scores/states). Yes, the school is expensive but the merit aid can definitely help. Also check her department major to ask about other stacking scholarships - they offer nice scholarships for music, theater, etc. as well.</p>
