anyone else get into FSU FILM?

HI! i'm just curious as to who got into FSU FILM!
i got in (and ACCEPTED of course!) and have been looking around trying to find my classmates!

since there are so few of us, i thought it'd be cool to get to know each other before we all start working together!

lemme know!

Taylor

Congrats!!! Fantastic program!!!

Congrats from me as well. It is certainly a well-respected program.

Taylor,

Nice going Filmkidd!!!

Hey, now that you’re an expert, would you mind sharing any advice or tips to those future students that might want to follow you to FSU Film?

Knock 'em dead kid!

Wheaty

Congrats! FSU is hard to get into for Florida students, are you from OOS?

Hi Taylor,
Congratulations! FSU seems to have a strong arts program and many faculty at other schools have an association with the school. My suggestion to find other incoming students would be to see if they have a facebook group for “FSU Class of 2015”. It’s a great way to “meet” your peers before school starts! Good luck!

Congratulations!! My D was not invited for an interview; but is still following her passion to try @ FSU again next fall. She will be joining FSU’s Honors program, and is really excited about getting into the film department as a ‘volunteer’. She is also considering applying to the Social Justice LLC. Since your film classes do not actually start until your sophmore year, you two can become friends! She will be taking the Intro. to Film that you will have to take in your freshman year–maybe you’ll be in the same class! When do you go for orientation? My D will be there on June 15-17th.

Again–wonderful job getting a slot with the upcoming class of film students!!

Congrats, filmkidd! Would you please share with us why you chose FSU? What about it made you want to attend?

Hey! I got into fsu, not for film, since thats not my interest at all, but its still a possibility i might be going!

Hey Taylor!

My name is Julia and I also got into FSU Film Class of 2015! I’m from Boston and I’ve been trying to find other people who got into the film school but there’s not too many of us so I haven’t been having much luck. It’s pretty cool to find you actually because there aren’t too many Massachusetts kids heading down to Tally. How’s it going? You excited?

By the way look at this link, it’s FSU film MFA thesis projects from 2009. This clip definitely played a big part in choosing FSU, just because these are exactly the types of movies I want to make. Anyways, take a look and we can talk about it later, as we’ll be going to school together for 2 1/2 years anyways…

Hope to be in touch!

I got in as well. My name’s Nastasia, and I’m from a town no one’s hear of in CT, haha. Congrats @filmkidd and @julfried :), excited to meet both of you! also that trailer you posted Julia is absolutely fantasticc

Just got back from NFFTY in Seattle, and some of the best films there came from FSU. It looks like you will have a fabulous experience there! Check out some of these films if you can once you get to school. They were very impressive.

I’m kinda changing the subject here, but since you got in, I wanted to ask how involvedd in film pre-college you guys were. I plan on applying in a year, and haven’t had the time to get too involved in my own films for a while… I am a part of out school television program and was worried that wouldn’t be enough background experience.
Thanks:)

Can anyone tell me who was admitted into FSU film this year what kind of background/experience you have?

hi sorry it’s been forever!

so to answer your questions:

i was accepted to NYU Tisch school of the arts, and BU’s film school, but i believe that FSU FILM was the far greater choice. FSU film is the only school in the country that pays for the students films (except for craft services), they use RED cameras (which are FAST becoming some of the most popular cameras out there), and it’s very intensive (we work through the summers and obviously through the whole school year).
plus, it’s twice as selective as some of the other schools. 20 are accepted in freshman year, and 10 more join the program in sophomore year as transfers.
also, for us in-state-ers, (and perhaps the out-of-state-ers???) it’s the best deal around, money wise. i have prepaid tuition, and i have the FL bright futures scholarship.
also, 100% of their graduates get a job in their field within 2-6 months after graduating. THAT’S AWESOME.

i did a LOT of theatre before FSU FILM. i got the chance to write, direct, and produce many of my own shows and others. i got to compete statewide with other writers and directors and ended up winning best director for the plays i put on.

i did do film, but considering that i’m from Tampa, FL, there really aren’t many opportunities to work in film. but the few that i found, i worked as an actor, a production assistant, and as a camera assistant and we got to take the films to festivals.

i took a lot of classes for film, but the one i think they really liked was the RED camera class. if you don’t know what RED is, go to youtube and look it up, it’s BEAUTIFUL.
they work with RED cameras, and i really think they liked to see that i had a little bit of experience working with them.

the application consists of an essay, 3 letters of rec, resume, and grade and SAT stuff.
the interview, is different. they ask you questions…A LOT of questions

the interview was scary/fun. @julfried and @stastapasta know what’s up LOL

a one-on-one and a group interview :)

hope that was helpful!
@julfried and @stastapasta i’ll see you guys in a few weeks :)

Anyone get an interview for 2013 fall admission?

My son who is a freshman at FSU this year and was accepted to film school, said he has not seen anyone on the twittersphere saying they got an interview yet. If he does, I will post here.

thanks StantonMom! I will post here if I hear anything too.

it also could be delayed due to alot going on last week with the animation/digital arts program in West Palm; they may have to move it back to Tally… this has been an ongoing issue for a few months now; ever since digital domain declared bankruptcy. This is part of FSU film school and so I’m sure it is taking up some of their time right now. Google it for articles if you want to read about it.
