Gosh, we have a great hs principal who the minute the letter came, went and pulled my son out of class to show him the letter and congratulate him in person along with her asst. Then they put it in the school email. Next week, there is an assembly sponsored by the student council where they will honor kids in theatre and the arts, and they will present his certificate there to him in front of student body. We were invited to attend via email with a heartfelt message from principal saying how proud they were of him and how lucky they are to have him at the school. For all who are disgruntled, copy and paste our experience into an email and send it to your counselors and principals who clearly are asleep at the academic switch here.

Hooray! D's letter came today! but no notification from the school yet...

SBDad

Which state you are and how many NMFS the school has these years

SBDad--Your suggestion to cut and paste your post and send it to the school is very, very tempting. Our good 'ol boy principal apparently doesn't see NMF status as particularly important. Now, if my daughter was signing with a big-time football program, I'm sure that would get his attention.

Finally, son got a letter in the mail today! It will be interesting to see how long it is before the principal or guidance staff get around to telling the students. I can't help but think the principal and his kids never won any academic awards. (Petty of me, I know, but how much effort does it take to tell 12 kids whether or not they have moved on to the next step?)

Well, my daughter's principal just said in passing one day "BTW, did you know you are a NMF?" (and that was actually much more attention than she gets for her successes in sports and other areas).

The pony express finally made it to North Carolina---D got her letter yesterday! (and yes, our principal must have been too busy lining up the newspaper photographer to come in and take a picture of the 12 fb players who signed w/ colleges this week, too)..... But, anyway, YAY!

B got his letter Saturday. I've sent a note to the GC to let her know, and to ask if she's received the Finalists' certificates yet. It'll be interesting to see if she knows! As of Friday, the school still hadn't notified B or, as far as I know, any other Finalist. And I'm sure they must have received notification.

Oh, well - it least NM sees fit to send their congratulations dirently to the students' homes. Thank you, NM!

Congratulations Brandon and Brandon's mom! We aren't going to say anything to the school and just see how long it takes them to tell us. A month or so ago I asked my D when would she be hearing about finalist status and she said the GC told her they wouldn't know until March! I hope she just misunderstood. If it really takes that long.......UGH!

March is when the first NMSC awards star being announced. Maybe that's what the GC meant. But my son's GC thought NM and presidential Scholar were the same thing. I guess they have a lot more to focus on than we do.

My daughter's NM college choice is "undecided." So someone had suggested e-mailing the colleges she's waiting to hear from and letting them know she made finalist. Has anyone had any experience with this? Will colleges wonder why she hasn't chosen them officially? Of her three reach schools, one participates in NM and the other two don't. Should we notify all three? What are other finalists doing? I figured I would have D send a short and sweet e-mail to the admissions officer who handles our region.

DD's principal is taking all Finalists out to lunch! Isn't that so nice? All finalists are supposed to meet at this restaurant near the school, where they will also get their certificates.

Well, we received our letter on Friday. The school has yet to acknowledge anything, though they were probably informed a week ago.

Taking them out to lunch??? They haven't bothered to tell the kids at our high school, but we've gotten a notice in the mail. Maybe they're planning to surprise them all with a big party! (HA)

LNMonster: I was thinking of faxing the notice, along with any other activity or award updates my son deems important enough. Very soon. What do other parents think?

My daughter recently found out that she's a Presidential Scholar candidate. At my urging, she e-mailed the updated info to the schools she applied to. It can't hurt, and she received several nice responses.

Congrats to your D, Hindoo! Being a candidate for Presidential Scholar is quite an achievement! That's great!!!

Thanks, ArkansasMom! But here's an interesting twist. Nobody around here seems to have any idea of what a "Presidential Scholar" is. (Someone asked me if it was something the colleges award.) ... Since my daughter's school has chosen to ignore its NM finalists, I'm assuming that her Presidential Scholar candidacy has no shot whatsoever of seeing the light of day! Oh, well. She'll live!

Here's an update: It's been six days since my daughter received her NMF letter in the mail. Still not a word from her principal or counselor. Alas.

Eww, much?

My counselor congratulated me as she was handing over the Certificate of Merit, but my principal had already done his part congratulating the whole lot of NMSFs earlier in the year, and I don't think any of us didn't move on to Finalist status, so nothing from the principal this time around.

Ditto that.
