What kind of changes?

Read the part in bold. This is a quote from a person who received Cal’s letter. This post is on page 1 or 2 of this thread.

since only one person seems to have gotten the cal regents so far, i decided to look up how the program works at cal and unlike ucla, cal doesn’t just invite everyone with a 4.0 so their process of selection takes longer: Candidate Selection – FEBUARY – APRIL from: [UC Berkeley Financial Aid Office: Undergraduates Types of Aid Scholarships Regents’ and Chancellor’s Scholarship](http://students.berkeley.edu/finaid/undergraduates/types_regents.htm)

For UCLA i believe they send a email/paper letter i hadvn’t seen anyone with a paper letter from Cal.

Just check MyBerk for it.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/1059791644-post9.html

I guess for freshmen it’s automatic admission however i don’t see why they would bother interviewing you if they’re going to reject you.

I believe the only case for rejection from CAL would be if you fail to qualify or dropped a spring
major pre-req classes. I hadn’t seen anyone with firsthand experience at being rejected with regent.

Ohhh, I see… Well that’s good to know. If it was based purely on GPA then we should have all heard at the same exact time. They must be reviewing the apps and haven’t gotten to all of ours yet… Er, I hope…

So for UCLA, what percentage of those invited to apply actually receive the award? Any statistics?

Online it says 300-350 transfer students are invited to apply but not how many receive it! It states that for freshmen 100 receive the scholarship out of 700-800 students invited to apply. So unless transfer students are included in that statistic, it’s ambiguous.

I sure wish I knew whether I should be hopeful or pessimistic, haha.

well, I got my UCLA letter in the mail. I have a 4.0, but I didn’t get anything from Berkeley. Strange. I suppose I live way closer to UCLA than Berkeley, hopefully I get it tomorrow.

[UCLA Financial Aid Office-Scholarship Office](http://www.fao.ucla.edu/uclascholarships/regents.html)

only 100 students TOTAL are given the regents scholarship. so out of the 700 freshman and 300ish transfer students only about 10% will get it (100/1000ish).

and yea, they prolly only sent this invitation out to all the 4.0 students. bc there’s no way they would have sent this to me after they read my personal statements where i clearly indicated that berkeley was where i wanted to go

Oh sheesh. So odds are definitely low then.

For berkeley the odds are similar. I was considered for Berkeley regents as a freshman…they told me I was admitted at my interview. However, that may not be the case for transfer students.

Does anyone know if UCLA looks at your ECs and stuff in consideration for Regents?

Gah this is so frustrating.

I don’t think UC looks at anything other than GPA. I have a 4.0 and got it from UCLA, but not from Berkeley :(

One would assuming Berkeley DOES look at extra curricular stuff then.

I just got the UCLA one in the mail today…are they done sending out the Cal ones?
& Does regents mean you are accepted?

I believe Cal’s regent isn’t done till april and they do it on a case by case basis.

Dear UC Berkeley Applicant,

The Cal Alumni Association invites you to apply for our undergraduate scholarship, The Leadership Award.

Funded through the generosity of Cal alumni and supporters, The Leadership Award is a one-year, merit-based scholarship providing incoming freshman students up to $2,000 each year as recognition of their past leadership and future potential. It is one of the most prestigious scholarship programs at UC Berkeley.

So if I didn’t get UCLA regents award letter, does that mean I will not get accepted by UCLA?

i figured i would reiterate part of my post on the last page:

unlike ucla, cal doesn’t just invite everyone with a 4.0 so their process of selection takes longer: Candidate Selection – FEBUARY – APRIL from: [UC Berkeley Financial Aid Office: Undergraduates Types of Aid Scholarships Regents’ and Chancellor’s Scholarship](http://students.berkeley.edu/finaid/undergraduates/types_regents.htm)

@noodlesli no, it doesn’t mean that at all, they send the ucla regents award letter automatically to everyone with a 4.0…it has nothing to do with actual decisions which will occur once they actually look at the apps…

i got a 4.0 too no news yet…

DCSPORTSFAN,

I went to a 4-year university before going to CCC for a year… I have a 3.98 GPA (because I had two A-'s at my 4-year university) and like 72 units or something… I also haven’t heard anything and earlier in this thread someone with a 3.96 heard from UCLA regents… Lemme know if you get your letter! I hope we get an invite… :)

Also, because some CCCs use +/- grading, I’m pretty sure the Regents scholarship doesn’t calculate an A- as a 3.7 like most 4-years do.
