I am so utterly confused as far as what to do with my schedule...i posted about this before but got no response...probably because the post was so long. I'll shorten the situation a bit.

I would normally take italian lit next fall (or in the summer if i study abroad) after having done italian 4. I was told that if i want i can do italian 4 AND italian lit at the same time so that if i go abroad in the summer, i could take an advanced comp course (which i would love to take). if i do this though, i may need to drop the french course i am currently enrolled in because it is also a lit course and I may feel overwhelmed.

Not sure what i want to do. i even thought of biting the bullet and doing both at the same time because in doing so i would knock out a bunch of requirements that i need for graduation....i just don't know what to do. I have a million other factors in my decision but won't go into them right now.

I read your last post, thought someone responded to it. you have a lot of different factors to consider here. At the very least, I could imagine someone succesfully doing two types of foreign literatures at the same time. The more important question is, can you? I'll dig up your other post and read the rest of the factors again.

thanks for hte reply....yeah, i am not exactly sure. the thing is, i pretty much hate all the classes I am taking EXCEPT my foreign language classes...and those tend to be the ones I do well in anyway, but both of these would be slightly more demanding as far as the workload due to the reading involved. I'm just not exactly sure. School starts on Wed so I think I will just go to every class and make a decision at the end of the week or begining of next week.

That's fine. In fact, "shopping" for classes is something I suggest to everyone. Maybe you'll get along well with a professor, maybe not. Just see what happens.

i spoke to the italian teach who said that

all the reading material for the course will be put online..which is kinda annoying because I'll have ot read on the computer unless I print out everything.

reading assignments will start out to be about 4 to 6 pages per week and then when we work our way up to the novels, we'll have to read something like 30 pages per week...

Now, i will be taking Italian 4 at the same time which will also involve reading, though probably not as much. I can kind atreat the two courses s extensions of the same course since they are both Italian language courses.

Now as for the French Lit course, readings would be 30 to 90 pages per week (or per day i dunno) and would also start out slow and work its way up. This course seems interesting, though challenging.

Now I will also have three other courses to deal with....2 linguistics, which means reading + problem sets and a Chemistry for non-scientiss course..which means reading and studying (no labs) and whatever homework for that course.

I will have LOTS of time during the day, because classes run from morn till early afternoon. I'll just have to test the waters. I woudl like to say I can handle it and I may do well seeing as they are language classes, which I love anyway.

well, in a strange twis of events...the big cheese int he italian dept said i ould just skip italian 4. that way i would just be taking one italian lit and one french lit.....its tempting to do this, but i relaly like my italian 4 teacher and the class would be an easy A + really interesting (getting into differences between different regions of italy and dialects and the mafia and so on). But dumping it would give me more time to devote to both of the other lits......i dunno! i'll think about it.

I was in ur situation cuz i took french and german lit....i felt it was very manageable because im pretty good at grammar. I dont think it should be an issue for you if it's your interest and your goal (proficiency in two FLs).

or you can do them in segments (diff. FL every quarter/semester).....if ur considering study abroad, then I suggest you finish the requisite language first (if there are conditions..etc)

yeah...i'll keep the doubled up italian (italian 4 + italian lit) since thats where i wanna go in the summer...then that minor will be taken care of. so, the saga continues.....
