Teachers - they don't get to come to Atlanta. From what I understand, you give them the award on the date that you put on the Finalist application, which I guess is supposed to be your school's big awards ceremony day. The teachers don't know about it before then (unless you tell yours). I think that's when you are to be recognized, too. I understand that the bottlers sometimes send someone to the ceremony. Not too sure how it works and I suspect my daughter's interesting little progressive school, which is not into any type of awards, is not going to play. She'll have to figure out how to present the teacher award, which means a lot to her, even if she has to storm the faculty meeting and present it there in front of her teacher's peers, at the risk of being thrown out on her ear by old Mr.BTW-you're-a-NMF (the principal).

I'm not sure when the festivities start. You should be prepared to have to "hurry up and wait" as they may wait for other kids' planes to arrive before they take a bunch of you to the hotel. They'll probably be trying to coordinate over 150 kids at the airport, which is likely to get complicated.

gopumas07 - I suspect that there aren't that many left in the pool for the Emory scholarship. Why not call the foundation and ask if there is anything extra that the Emory candidates need to do and whether the deadlines and notification dates are the same as for the other Scholars? You'll probably feel more relaxed if you know what you are walking into and what's expected of you. Good luck. It sounds like a sweet deal.

I'm sad about that, waterfall. It was a lot of work -- I hope you'll be able to reuse your essay on other applications. Be proud to be a Semifinalist -- that is impressive. Good luck with your other scholarship applications.

although i think i've met some of you on facebook, congrats to all the finalists! can't wait to meet you all in atlanta :]

btw, has anyone completed the short bio yet? i can't believe i'm having trouble with this thing. you would think that after all those essays with word limits, this would be a breeze!

i've started it, but yeah, it's hard...it's the first thing 250 ppl are going to know about you...what did you guys think of the samples? do you think they really represent what's typically done?

If your name is on the Finalist list and you didn't get an email from the foundation today, you should probably call and let them know there's a problem. My daughter received an email this afternoon. It was about travel arrangements and indicated that other important information would be emailed over the next few weeks.

Coke letter came today. My S said it was OK to open if it arrived, so I did. He is a national scholar--he is going to flip. I texted him at school during 3rd period!
