My son is considering applying. Just wondering if anyone has any experience/opinions?
Did he ask around school? Someone has to know something. He should start with the boss.
Yes I am familiar with it. Only in that it shows up on various lists and has a call for scores. It looks interesting!
Hi, I’ve attended it as a percussion performer twice now. If your son is interested in contemporary music, this is a phenomenal festival. He’ll get to work directly with the other performers, with the composers, and faculty. I’ve made many new friends and connections through the festival, resulting in collaborations I never would have had access to without it. Each year we played a variety of top-notch repertoire, with lots of concerts, masterclasses, and presentations.
I would be happy to answer any questions you have about the festival, specific or broad. What instrument does your son play, or is he a composer? You might also check out the Nief-Norf website, in case you haven’t already: www.niefnorf.org
@bigdjp I think that’s who told him about it. I’d never seen it mentioned here so I was just curious.
@aktourist Thanks for the feedback! He’s also a percussionist and is interested in contemporary music. Sounds like this will be a good experience for him.
No problem! Especially as a percussionist interested in contemporary music, he would have a lot to gain. It’s a great environment for working with other percussionists (half the performance fellows tend to be percussionists), as well as non-percussionists. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask!
If he’s 18, So Percussion runs a great program: http://sopercussion.com/education/summer-institute/
James Beauton runs a percussion intensive in southern California.
@SpiritManager he did So Percussion last summer (and loved it) and is hoping to do both that and Nief-Norf this year.
Thank you all for the feedback!
