Anyone familiar with University of North Dakota?

I'm interested in applying for their aviation program but it seems like the student body dislikes the campus and its location, and lack of social life. Anyone know the school or the area? (Grand Forks, ND)

I'm also looking at Arizona State but haven't decided yet on that, any other reputable programs suggestions would also be highly appreciated.

My brother takes a few classes there as part of the Grand Forks Air Force Base. I can't really provide much info as to the school itself, but I can tell you one thing: Grand Forks is probably the most boring town you'll ever encounter (and this is coming from a guy in Nebraska). There really isn't that much around the town and one thing that really aggravated me when I visited, is that I'm a morning person and NOTHING in the city is open before noon on Sunday. I also wasn't impressed by the people's friendliness. I expected the same Midwestern friendliness that I encounter everyday in Nebraska.

I do know that their aviation program is nationally renowned.

You're also only about an hour away from Winnipeg, Canada and Fargo.

bumpity bump....

and thanks for that post Walt!

I've had several friends and family members that have gone/are going to UND (one's even in the aviation program) and they all have had a fairly good experience. No problems with campus, location, or social life. Of course, they are all from the area, so it might be a bit more of an adjustment if you aren't.

It's a law; only a few decades ago, nothing was open on Sunday at all.

True, people are not going to walk up to you and start talking, but they are still friendly once you know them.

If you're not set on North Dakota, you might also want to look at the aviation program at Kansas State University. If memory serves, K-State's program is also well regarded and is based at the Salina campus.

Here's a link to K-State's aviation program: http://www.sal.ksu.edu/aviation/index.html

Well, ASU definitely has a more vibrant social life and location....

One of my old teachers was from ND; he hated it and moved away as soon as possible. He said it was a really boring place to live.

My entire family has graduated from UND, but most were business majors. Coming from Minneapolis, Grand Forks doesn't have a lot to offer, but the University has plenty of activities for students. Most live on campus and are not running home every weekend. Greek life is fairly popular and I believe one of the fraternities is made up primarily of aviation majors. Northwest Airlines has helped build some great training facilities in recent years. The only negative thing I could say about UND relates to the weather. It gets cold up there.

Two kids from my school this year (HS Class of 2008) have been accepted to U of North Dakota and they are going there for aviation.

Anyone famliliar with the U of SOUTH Dakota?

Thanks for all the sound advice!

Will definitely check out Kansas State now..I also just discovered that Western Michigan also has a top notch flight program, anyone familiar with the school or Kalamazoo?

North Dakota is a fantastic, underrated state with an undeserved reputation.

Grand Forks, however, blows.
