Any fellow CC'ers going to Scholars Day who would like to meet sometime while in Columbia?

My D and I are attending - not sure how we would meet but could be fun!
We are flying down Friday night and leaving Sunday night - thought we'd check out the area a little on Sunday. We have reservations for breakfast at the revolving restaurant Sunday.

We're not going as we were there for the McNair.S has decided to attend and we're figuring out anOrientation time now.Have a great time!
PA Mom: We had brunch at the revolving restaurant when we were there.great views and the food was good too.We couldnt see a dorm room at Capstone b/c the entrance to the dorm and the restaurant is separated.Hopefully your tours include a Capstone room. They were pushing Maxcy and Preston Residential on the McNair kids so showed them those rooms. If you need any info on those buildings I'll be glad to answer.
You're going to love the airport. Its small, has rocking chairs and couches in the area outside of secirity.

Thanks - I am looking forward to this visit. We got a chance to see Capstone when we were down in Feb - My D just approached a student who took her around. She really liked it and thought the students there were very nice. It definitely left a good impression with her.
I am trying to write down all of the details we will need to take care of while we are down - like pricing of food at Pizza Hut, Chick-Fil-A, etc. Need to figure out food plan options LOL
Also want to check out some other things in the area like banks, drugstores, etc. Should be fun.
We'll have to start a post of tips culled from all of our experiences.

Theres a big drugstore in Five Points..walkable..I think its an Ekerd's (spelling?) you can see it from the Capstone restaurant when you go revolving around!! Also, the bookstore had drug/personal hygiene type basics for sale and I suspect the other "market" type outlets ..like at West Quad also sell that kind of stuff.Theres banks along Assembly St on the Kroger Center/Carolina Colisium side of campus..at least a Bank of America.Dont recollect a branch bank in the Russell House but there are ATM's in there.
The campus should look beautiful.Things were starting to bloom when we were there so now should be in full bloom..magnolias,etc.The Presidents House's garden, which you can see into from the left side while facing the front of the house on the Horseshoe ..and you can walk down that side...is full of red rose bushes.
Have a great time and come back and tell us all about food plans and whatever else you discover!
By the way..you are all going to love the higher level Admissions staff people you meet..especially the two Heathers...H Wheeler and H Kelley.

Have a GREAT time at the Scholars Day. DD wishes she could go to that too. She and DH will be driving down to Columbia on April 7 and staying for three days. She hopes to have an oboe lesson, sit in on a class or two and talk to someone about things like scheduling classes, etc. They are excited about the trip. I'm going to suggest that they have breakfast or lunch at that Capstone Restaurant...do you suppose they can make reservations online?

Capstone is only open to the public for Sunday brunch.I dont think it serves at all at other times except for campus functions.
As far as I know class scheduling is done at the orientation date after placement tests and AP evaluation.

If you google "Top of Carolina" you can get a number for reservations. If you call one number and get a machine try the other one - I valled on A Sunday so they were open. Didn't see aplace to reserve online.

Her questions are more specific then just the "when". She wants to know about academic advising, etc. This is particulary important to her because the university is so large, and she is going with an undeclared major. She needs to find out if she'll get "lost in the shuffle" or if there will be someone(s) to advise her along the way. It's the main reason she was hoping for Capstone...the smallness. But if they give her positive feedback regarding advising, I think she'll feel better. Her other two choices are LAC's with 1/4 the enrollment, small classes, no teaching assistants, no large lecture hall classes...you get the picture. USC is very different, but she still likes it a lot. She just needs some kind of reassurance that students like her don't have to totally fend for themselves. If they do, she will not choose that school.

My son willl be attending Scholar's day - they are driving from FL on Thursday night. They are staying at the Inn on Campus. They come home on Sunday.
