I applied for Chemical Engineering. I don't know if UCSD is good for my major :( I wanted to get in cuz Cal has arguably the best chemistry department in the nation.

Anyone receive any response on their appeals this morning? I sure didnt...=

nada, i guess they didnt actually work yesterday, but some people just got reponses yesterday morning?

I really think they've just forgotten about us at this point...I'm getting tired of waiting.

who's up to physically going to the admissions office? carpool anyone?

LoL. I like scapermoya's attitude. Go knock down some doors guys! and best of luck to all!

Who's driving?

My original plan was to call them and ask for an impersonal interview; drive up if they permitted it, and drive up anyway if they didn't.

When I called, though, the adcom who said clearly that interviews were not allowed. So here I am cooling my toes. Going up to protest would be the Berkeley way, though.

rejected my spring admit appeal yesterday morning

guess i'm going to ucla =/

I like the way both ya guys think, scapermoya and Starbuck. When they tell me that they'll "get to my application as soon as possible," I'll just say "no no, i'll wait" and just chill in the lobby till they finish reviewing it. Nothing like a little pressure...

Adcom member, rather.

To bolster all of your hopes, my uncle's friend's son got fall admit in engineering 5 years ago off of two "modest" grounds of appeal:

1.) His school is very competitive.
2.) Berk didn't add up his SAT IIs correctly (which made no sense to me, seeing as they consider all SAT IIs seperately). Apparently, his USH SAT II lowered his total (?).

Even though this was 5 or so years ago, it proves that a well structured appeal letter can go a long way (one thing that I know this person included was a VERY well written and thought provoking letter).

If you fit the mold, don't give up hope.

P.S. This is not to say that in today's day of competition, grounds that center around senior accomplishment are not the most important aspect of one's appeal.

I am quite fine going to UCLA =D If for nothing else, this circus has been great for getting my adrenaline pumping every 2 hours for 3 weeks. It is like free speed.

Oh, i know appeals work. im headed to UCLA if berk doesnt work out (on, what else?--an appeal), but i do just want some closure on this entire process.

cross your fingers and hope they post tomorrow morning...

this waiting is getting a little old, but in all likelihood we will know within 24 hours. going up and protesting is simply showing that we fully embody the berkeley spirit, we can't be faulted for that. ;)

amen to the free speed comment, waiting for it to go from the login to the letter sure got that heart pumping, even though i did everything i could to properly code something to check my status for me. those berkeley people know how to design websites properly apparently.

Starbuck, I believe 5 years ago Berkeley was still on the Point System.
Under the point system, you get 1 point for every SAT point. Then they multiply your GPA by 1000 and add that in. There are several other relatively much smaller admission factors too, like the PS and "legacy" which they were still considering back then. Total points were out of 8000. Admissions were given starting with the highest point total, moving down until all slots were filled.

good morning guys, I hope this is true for some of you aswell, I just got in for fall:
"We have re-evaluated your application, and we are pleased to offer you admission for the fall term 2006! Please complete the on-line Statement of Intention to Register (SIR) by May 11th to ensure a space at Berkeley. If you plan to live on campus, and have not already submitted your housing application, we recommend you apply for housing as soon as possible."

good luck again to the rest of you, excuse me while i go dance for a while.
