Anyone gotten into Indiana University yet?

My son applied 10/23 and was accepted 11/23 pre-business and petitioned for the Kelley school on Nov 29th, but no response yet. Hope that helps those that are waiting.

@Harding Thank you

My son was accepted pre business into Kelley. I understand he can petition for direct admission but does it really matter? From what I understand he will be automatically admitted if he meets a certain GPA in the required courses his freshman year. He was accepted on 11/29 and I see petitions were due 12/1 so not much time to think about it. I kind of like the idea of him having to buckle down from day one. Are the standards attainable for the average hard working pre business student? Assuming he meets the requirements what would be the advantage of a direct admit?

SAT 1350, (640r 710M) OOS, Attended very rigorous NE boarding school

Have the same question as @albo62. From what I have gathered so far, there is no difference between direct admit and standard admit students who can maintain the required grades in first year and get in. DD got accepted for pre-business with SAT in the low 1300ā€™s, OOS. I do see that Kelley petition can still be submitted, not sure about the chances now. How tough is it to get the required grades in the first year being a standard admit to enrol into Kelley from second year ?. Anyone has insights on the courses to choose.

@albo62 I think the petition is worth it, yes. It matters because having direct admission will take a huge load of stress off of your child the first year. Thatā€™s not to say that he wonā€™t likely gain standard admission just fine after his first year. But itā€™s better to be safe with a petitioned direct than to have the threat of standard admission looming over your head. It sounds like his stats are close enough that he might be successful on the petition.

@Undergr2020 You know your kid and what they are capable of. The grades you have to get to apply standard are nothing less than a B with an average of 3.5 in all classes. Also you cannot have any W (withdrawls) on your record. Most kids are totally capable of this. But some of them will party, think they can slide by, and then miss the mark. So then what? Change your major? Change your school to stay in the same major? Thatā€™s the tough part.

As far as courses to choose, does he have any dual credit enrollment classes that he is bringing in? He has to have a total of 30 hours, with at least 12-13 on campus to apply standard, with the grades above. Youā€™ll have several core classes to choose from. So he would need to choose the four classes he thinks are easiest. I donā€™t have in front of me, but that list included Econ, Calc, Business Presentations, Computer (of some type), Accounting, Composition, and the rest escape my mind right now. Look it up and see if you can get a strategy that works for him. But also, petition just in case.

How do you know when you get your decision back? Will I get an email, will I get something in the mail, will it be on the one.IU website? I have no idea!! I submitted my application 11/1 (November 1), so I feel like I should be hearing back soon.

@user_370086 I first saw on the IU application portal. You would then get an email and then in the mail.

Just to make sure, is the IU portal one.iu.edu?

Re: direct admit to Kelley. D received a letter from the business school in the mail about 10 - 14 days after getting her portal acceptance to IU. Prior to that it only said ā€œpre-businessā€ upon original acceptance.

@user_370086 Yes. From there you can search or click application status.

Hi everyone, i recently heard that I got the deanā€™s scholarship (11k/year) and was invited to apply for the selective scholarships. Does anyone know if the selective scholarship application is worth it and if I will get any extra substantial merit aid?

My son petitioned before the 12-1 deadline to the Kelley school and received direct admission acceptance yesterday! Heā€™s ecstatic!!

@Harding Congrats!!

@StarlightSami how did you find out about your scholarship? I got an email saying I should be proud that my son got a merit scholarship but I havenā€™t gotten any other information. Is it on the portal? We also never got any red envelope in the mail so Iā€™m confused.

@Momofmanytoo , Thanks a lot for the information, it is very helpful. We will petition to Kelley and hope for the best !

Anyone can tell me where they will mention the deanā€™s award if you got one? In the acceptance letter or in a separate letter? We got an email from Kelley school regarding the acceptance but no scholarship mentioned. That will be a hard decision if there is no scholarship money. Thanks!

I got a letter about my scholarship in my red acceptance packet. @NYC2018nyc @hong24060

So that is a separate letter? I just received a copy of the acceptance letter signed by the chair of undergraduate program by email.

The red envelope is on the way. They told us we would get the email the day when the acceptance letter was printed.

For the SSA, are people writing the general essay? I remember when I wrote my IU supplement, the end of the question said that it may be used for scholarship consideration. Should I rewrite the essay, leave the general essay section blank, or copy/paste my already written supplemental into this section?
