thanks 4 all ur help

also...for pres scholars, did we have to send in the deans service honors corps thing already...when is it due??

The "discussion groups" are basically about helping you plan your course schedule, and the Morse Academic Plan. Also, you have a lot of group meetings about NYU, each other, and diversity. You have a LOT of time to bond with classmates, especially those in your orientation group. There is quite a bit of free time, especially during the 2nd and 3rd days. I found the first day to be a bit tiring. The placement tests are not hard. the math test is extremely easy, but i'm not sure about the language ones... I hear they're all multiple-choice though. You don't need to take the science placement tests if you aren't planning on taking chem or bio. Seeing as you're an english major, you probably wouldn't want to take them.

Orientation was a bit daunting on the first day, but once you make friends are get comfortable it's a lot of fun. The language placement tests are SAT IIs. I know for Spanish you need a 660 to test out and for French I think it was about 630.

They will answer every question you could ever think to ask while you're there, so don't worry about it!

i think the "social events" slightly differ from group to group. My group went on a tour of washington square, and there was also that after-party thing for the talent show.

yeah most people just wore casual stuff. I suggest you don't wear shorts though.. At least bring one pair of long pants because although it might be hot outside, you'll be spending a great deal of time inside in the Silver Center for Arts and Science, and it is FREEZING in there. Seriously, the AC was blasting the whole time. That said, you might want to bring some sort of jacket too.

im arriving early but im not staying at NYU...im staying with some friends of mine for tuesday night.... i didnt know about early arrival when i was planning my trip.

What's the math test like? Is it just general stuff, like a harder version of the SATs, or is there more specialized with Calculus questions etc? Should I study for it?

Why would a specific laptop have an affect on your ability to connect to the network??? As long as it has a working network card, it's not going to make a difference...

You're probably right, but a friend is heading to Colgate, and Colgate advised everyone that they had to have their laptops pre-approved before they could hook up to the network, and that got me thinking. (I think too much, such men are dangerous.)

If you're deciding between mac and pc, I suggest getting a mac. I asked at orientation, and it seems like most students use mac (esp. in tisch) because most of the nyu computers at the kimmel center and bobst library are macs.
