Anyone having trouble finding a job this summer?

Starting a week before school ended, I've been trying to find a job. I've applied to at least 15 places, and still haven't gotten a call back yet.

School's been out for almost 2 weeks already, and I have a feeling it's going to get harder and harder, since no one wants to hire someone for less than 2 months(I'm leaving for college).

Anyone else have trouble? I'm thinking about just mowing lawns for neighbors again this summer.

Yup. Been looking for about a month. So far nothing.

Last year I was in the same boat. I was looking for job since freshman year, but to no avail. Job market was hard for me because I’m a recent immigrant (with accent), and Asian. I only applied to American business around my place. No result. Last summer I remember filling out more than 20 apps since Spring Break. Then I looked for more in the summer. Nothing came up until that fall when I turned 18. 3 places ( Macy, fastfood restaurant and gas station) called me. I ended up taking the fast food job, which I left after about 6 months

Just mow lawns for neighbors in the summer.

The job market is a real beeutch.

Yeah not a ton of places want to hire just for the summer since it’s pretty easy to find someone that they’ll be able to train and not immediately replace. Babysit, mow lawns, house-sit, pet-sit, run errands for elderly neighbors, etc.

Yeah, it’s really hard to find jobs. There are a lot of places who hire summer workers, but I would have started earlier to look if I were you. Big retail chains like Walmart are always hiring. You could also try working at a summer camp.

What I learned from the job process is that you can’t afford to be picky about where you work (especially if you’re under 18) at a time where everyone is looking for a job. You might have to lower your expectations, especially if you don’t have prior working experience. Then, you can slowly work your way up the ladder to better positions. Luckily, I attended a job fair and got a job at my local amusement park this summer. Wasn’t my first choice, but it’s still a job. :)

^ That is what my mom said–to not be picky about a job in this economic recession. I am going to apply at a Jack-In-The-Box that is close to my house. Now, i don’t care if i have to work in a fast-food place, i just want the money to pay for College and help out my family. I most likely will get the job. So, i will work 8 hrs during the summer, and 4 hrs when school starts since i will be taking 3 AP classes–AP English Lit, AP Calculus, and AP Gov.

In general it’s really hard to find a job now a days. My friends don’t have jobs and have been searching for a long time. I work at a retirement home and I love it. If you have a job don’t give it up! It will be hard to get it back if you can’t find another. The only way to find one is really to apply everywhereeee. A lot of places aren’t hiring now tho because college students are back for the summer. At least where I am from that’s how it is. Also, knowing someone who works somewhere helps too!

Yup, it’s looking pretty bleak. I’ve applied to four places, and I’m not exactly expecting to get hired by any of them (though I’d obviously love to). And nearly all the jobs that are available are only reserved for experienced workers, which I, at 17, am definitely not. If I can’t get a job, I’ll probably just tutor kids and post ads on craigslist, newspaper, etc. Ughhhhhh

I volunteered at a summer camp for the past 2 summers and this summer I get paid so I guess I’m lucky.
