anyone hear back about the dean's Honor Scholarship application?

Does anyone know if they truly sent only 50 offers, or are they hoping to net 50 DHS's this year. In the past they stated they had 100-150 DHS's, I believe. This years letter says there are only 50. Anyone know for sure?

I remember reading that last year they gave out only 50, down from 100 the year before. I believe that 50 is the gross amount, and they'll probably net fewer than that in the entering class.

Yes, last year they only offered a total of 50 and not all 50 recipents chose to enroll at Tulane.

This is very exciting! And so many are here on CC! Good luck to you all!!

just found out today in chicago!!! so exciting!! and yes, only 50 were INVITED to accept the DHS, so theyll net less than that amount. this definitely bumps tulane up on my list...

Congrats to everyone! I hope to see you all on campus next year!

could anyone who got the deans scholarship post their stats and what they sent in for the project? thanks!

1100 applicants with minimum suggested scores and grades and 60 awarded .... guess a NMF, 34 and 1590 wasn't good enough this year .... out of curiosity, anyone get a Dean's with lower numbers?

According to the letter sent to the recipients, there were over 1000 applicants and only 50 (not 60) awarded. Also, I do not believe this (or any) scholarship is just about stats., so I can understand why folks aren't posting them. You can look at the Tulane 2012 facebook group to see a lengthy discussion of many of the recipients and their projects.

mine came this week....I would hope to think it wasn't just about stats....the award letter was personalized and made reference to things that were in my application that were specific to me which made me feel that it was not completely about stats

yeah my acceptance lettter was detailed in that it couldnt just be a mass, identical acceptance letter. it pertained to me and my project, and it as more aabout the proejct than the stats.

I got a letter saying I didn't make it (but reminded me of being offered the presidential).
But the weird thing is that I didn't apply.... and I certainly didn't have a project.

Anyone know how I wound up in that pile they chose to inform?

Now why do you think that they would send a letter to the rejects that they offered 100 DHS scholarships, and tell the awardees that there were 50? Methinks the admissions office is overloaded? And then there was that misleading email that we received that was actually intended for guidance offices. They retracted that one. Anyway, D was reminded that they did offer her the Presidential, and 24k certainly is a generous amount.

I suspect you're right about overloaded...it's been stated elsehwere TU got a 62% increase in apps, and I doubt they added 62% more staff in the admissions office. As for the 100 v. 50, a couple of years ago, I know they offered 100 DHS, but I believe I read some time ago they cut it to 50, possibly to offer more Presidentials. Should they have doubled checked one more time before the communications in question went out? Undoubtedly...

But I rather doubt there was any deliberate attempt to mislead - mistakes happen, and more frequently when the workload piles up. My guess is there are a few red faces in Gibson Hall...

Word has it that they awarded 100 and plan on having 50 enroll in the freshman class

no i called yesterday, they awarded 50. and are expecting to yield about 30-35.

yeaaa, same situation as Johnson181. I never applied for the DHS. Do you think it could be because I already got the second highest teir of schol. money, so they just group me in?

My son also got the letter saying he didn't receive it and he never applied either. However, when he filled out the app I do remember he checked of a spot that asked if he planned on applying for it. I just figured that's why he got the letter.

Just to clear things up, we awarded 100 winners of the DHS this year. We expect 50 of them to enroll in the class of 2012.

Additionally, if you checked off the box on your application that indicated you were applying for the DHS, then you received a letter regarding your decision.

Jeff-
Does this mean that if someone merely checked off that they were going to apply for the DHS, even though they subsequently did not, that they are counted in the "over 10,000" applications that were submitted, or were over 10,000 applications (with projects) truly submitted? Can you give us a true # of the total # of completed DHS applications you received? Thanks.
