I know we're not supposed to discuss any of the content of the alternate exams. So I'm not...just thought I'd say this as forewarning before I get a 10000 messages blasting me apart for talking about an alternate test.

I got a 4 on the APUSH. I really felt like I should have had a 5. Has anyone else here taken the APUSH alternate and felt like they should've scored higher? I'm debating whether or not to send it in for rescore.

It's what the graders think you deserved that matters. Maybe your essays aren't as good as you think, maybe your graders were really harsh, I'm neither you nor a grader so I can't tell.

"A 4 that I think should be a 5" is not a good reason for a rescore. If you think they rescore the Free Response, they don't. They only redo the multiple choice by hand. And there is no machine error out there that would make a 5 a 4. Sorry.

Anyway, what's wrong with a 4?

Well, my teacher was expecting me to get a 5. And I was as well.

In that case....what's wrong with a 3? It's passing...lol.

Also, my teacher I had in high school is an ACTUAL AP grader who goes every summer to grade essays. And I did well in his class and he grades pretty hard too.

There's nothing wrong with a 3, you're right, it's passing.

Chances are your teacher was not your grader. I know that wasn't your point, but still. Graders are picked on seniority, the ones teaching the subject for the longest. Not all graders are going to grade like your teacher just because your teacher is one of them. It looks like someone graded harder.

Anyway, get over it, it's not the end of the world.

chris07, you're not really helping the situaton at all. No **** my teacher didn't grade my essays....how would he? He had told me beforehand that not even the AP graders get to see/grade the alternate exam. Some separate group of people do that. Umm....I highly doubt someone graded much harder than him. That's why I'm wondering if the SCANTRON might have messed up.

Well you never said SCANTRON before, so how was I supposed to know? And there's NO help for you, if what you're expecting is someone to change your AP score or tell you "you're absolutely right, you are so beyond mistakes and your style is so flawless that you definitely deserve a 5." Can you consider that you got multiple choice questions WRONG even? You know, some questions ARE tricky, listing obvious but incorrect answer choices. So your perception of how you did isn't always correct. That's why we don't grade our own tests (though obviously you feel that you should).

Anyway, the machines don't have errors that turn 4's into 5's. I think I said that before.

But go ahead, ignore advice and reason and waste your money on scores. Hey, I would pay for it just to see your whiny reaction when you get the same 4 back.

Chances are, unfortunately for you, that the 4 is correct. I've walked out of two AP exams confident that I'd gotten a 5, only to see 4s on the score report. You might think you put in a lot of good information, but what could have happened was that other people just had a lot more, and thus scored higher on the essays. As for the MC, we've all taken tests where we were positive that we had the correct answer but it turned out we were wrong. The questions are tricky. If you had been expecting a 5 and gotten a 2, I would pay for the rescore. But in your case I don't think it is worth it.

Predator - just curious, did you get your alternate scores in the mail or by phone?

I got my alternate scores by phone.
