Anyone, longboarding?

i've got a set of randals 180's on my pintail, very stable. But i like my seismics better on my GS.

Caro, hill from peterson to warren. Great speed, but about half the people I see going down that way without heel-dragging wipe out or slam into the tree right in front of Geisel ;).

btw what kind of shoes do you guys wear?

i've got some payless flat sole shoes, since shoes wear out quickly

YOu don't really have the shoe-killing problem when longboarding. I just get whatever simple, plain black skate shoe is on sale at the time (no puffy tounges or 5-pound shoes for me)

Is long boarding dangerous? I used to have a skateboard... man those were fun to play with. (notice I didn't say they are fun to RIDE with) I just stomped one end and I saw it go flying doing 540s and 720s in the air. (yep, this pretty much sums up my childhood) Now days, my dad uses it to move stuff like huge boxes and etc. lol useful tool. Anyone riding bikes? I heard bikes get stolen very often, I might just bring em in to my dorm even though it'll **** the hell out of my roommate. But if anyone likes to go mountain biking in San Diego trails (I heard they are pretty awesome!), I'm totally up for it!

Someone teach me longboarding sounds like fun, if no one does it's just going to be stomped on one end, and so forth. ;P

Longboards have much much more inertia (considering their length...), hence, its more stable and likely safer than a normal skateboard.

All the danger comes from how you use it.. Stomping on a skateboard, (lol) you aren't really going to get hurt. But, If you're bombing the geisel hill, you could get hurt pretty bad (I believe on kid died skating the geisel hill). Learn board control, learn to slide, carve, and toe drag to control your speed, always scope a hill for debris/surface conditions before hitting it, and don't do hills out of your skill level. You WILL fall - I have video of me destroying my elbows, smacking my face on the road @ 20-ish mph, and more road-rash-plants than you'll ever want to see.

But you should be fine if you're just using it for transportation. :D
