Can you give me any applying advice? Could I (well, actually my friend) send in an activities list that wasn't requested? And is there really only that one essay? Tell you what, I'll look at the application before I ask any more questions, but I really would like some advice, she is really stressed out.

Hmm... I don't know about sending extra stuff unless it was asked, but she can really take advantage of the essay section. It is extremely open ended and she can let the committe know whatever she wants them to know. Also, there may be an additional comments section, but I cannot remember. I think her best bet is just to fill out the application carefully, take advantage of the essay part, and make sure she gets her seminary teacher's recommendation if she has one and ward and stake presidents recommendations (also if she has them). Tell her good luck from me!

You applied to HYPS, flipchick, and Duke...why not MIT? or Brown? Good luck with Stanford, though, it sounds like your first choice if you get in. BTW, the reason I'm on this BYU thing is because my calculus teacher was Mormon and went to BYU for his master's in economics. Also, my French teacher got his phd from Stanford, so it's interesting to hear you are interested in Stanford. Of course, many bright students would be.

Thanks, hikkifan. I didn't apply to MIT because I'm not really interested in a technical type school, and Brown just didn't feel right. I'm really crossing my fingers for Stanford, and then for HYP, Duke, and Northwestern, but I know I'd be really happy at BYU too. I guess either way it's a good thing for me :)

Sounds good, flipchick. I know why Brown "just didn't feel right". It's because of the name right? That's what turned me off from it anyhow. ;)

Oh yes! Definitely the name :) I mean, if it were named, "Pink," then that would be a different story!

lol. yeah I would totally apply then. I think "Hot Steel Orange" would seal the deal, though.

Did you ever get that scholarship? I considered it but then I looked at the application and decided not too. haha.

I didn't get the Gordon B. Hinckley, but I did get the Heritage, which is full tuition for four years. I can't complain.
