Anyone out there?

Who's applying to LSU?

I just applied. I live in the Chicago area, so everyone thinks I'm kind of weird for applying there. I've been a huge fan of their athletics and it just seems like a different life style that I'm interested in living. Probably the only way I would end up going is if I got basically a full scholarship though... I have a shot with a 34 ACT and 4.1 weighted GPA, just curious to see what they can offer me, then I'll probably visit. I like how they don't ask for a lot of BS on the application, I was applying to Georgia also and they want teacher recs and additonal ones for scholarships, just not worth my time.

Go Tigers!

Yep, applying from Texas...I'm counting on a lot of money also. Specifically the Tiger Scholars Scholarship and the Golden Oaks Scholarship. If I get the Golden Oaks one its full tuition. If I don't get it I may need a marching band scholarship to come through, I've got an audition in February.

LSU is very student friendly, all the Texas schools are so overloaded and don't have the same feel, even from emails from admissions.

Ya the Golden Oaks award is nice, I mean full tuition. The Chancellor's Alumni scholarship is even better, room and board, and a study abroad grant, in addition to the Golden Oaks. Not sure what my chances at it are, but if I could get it, it's a done deal.

I really like what LSU is trying to do. They are one of the finest college athletic institutions and they're trying to raise their academic profile. By attracting top out of students with the Golden Oaks tuition waver, I think they are well on their way to becoming a public Southern powerhouse in the class of a U of Georgia type school. Maybe I could be a part of it, we'll see.

Plus, I've been very impressed with my correspondance with them so far. I requested info from about 30 colleges on the same day a few months ago, and LSU's was the first to arrive.

By the way, I'm a male, just thought I'd point that out.

Yeah I have a W GPA of 3.6 (one of the top public schools in TX) and an SAT of 1300/1600 which I will raise in November (1300 was first time no prep), so I'm just shooting for Golden Oaks as of now. The two things that first attracted me were the attempts to get out of state kids to raise the academic level, and their marching band (which I plan on auditioning for next semester).

The campus is really nice and I completely agree with what you said on how they will rise to be a UGA type school.

Well good luck, hope you can get it. Maybe I'll see you there sometime.

Hey guys. I hope you check this. I will be applying to LSU by next week at least. Well, since I live in Louisiana I can get my tuition paid for through the TOPS program (it takes a lot of work to get an keep though, and doesn't include any other fees. =/ ) I definitely see LSU growing academically and becoming more selective. It will feel like a great accomplishment to get accepted. I've been on a campus tour this summer, and the campus is absolutely gorgeous. (if you want any advice on dorms, give me a private message ;] ) I am more than sure that LSU is where anyone can get the absolute college experience. That is really important to me and should be important to others. This is one of the main reasons that I chose this university over the competing university closer to home (ULL). I've been anticipating the day I move out and go to college since my 9th grade year and being 20 minutes from home will sort take away from that college experience. lol (though LSU is only about an hour away from me, but it still seems far considering it's one hell of a route to get there. lol) Just so you guys know I have a 3.6 GPA, which is probably higher if weighted, and a 24 on the ACT. I do plan to take it again, hopefully before many scholarships are due. Well good luck guys. I hope we can meet by this time next year.

Oh yeah, one of you should make a topic once your acceptance letter comes, then we can share if we got in or not. (and if you guys still plan to attend.. =D)

ps. I'm a girl.

Hey what's up LSU2008? Good luck, you should get in no problem. What do you plan on studying?

Yeah lsu is more of the all-around college that i'm looking for. Acceptance letters come fast right? (rolling admissions?) I already have automatic acceptance numbers, but it will feel good to have that letter.

I'm not really sure how fast they are with admissions. I think a friend of mine that applied last year found out in about Feb. or Mar. To notthatgood4, I'm all over the place with what I want to study. I'm hoping to start a career in health, so I will probably have to go to graduate school. I just have to choose which major I'll enjoy most as an undergrad.

My friend got his acceptance letter less than 2 weeks after he applied like a month ago. I guess it varies.

It says on the website that an application decision has been made and it is being sent by mail. I wonder if they notify about scholarships at this stage.

I plan on majoring in Journalism. If I do go to LSU, they seem to have a pretty good outline of what it takes to graduate with a journalism degree. I'll take the needed classes at the communications school and take elective classes at the honors college.

I'd be going to the comm school too, but probably for public relations.

What's been going on with you guys?

Turned in the app online, took SAT for the second time Saturday, and will send transcript tomorrow or Wednesday. Everything I needed for the Nov. 15 deadline is pretty much locked in but I'm still nervous because I'm sending my SAT score without knowing what I got on it. That will determine my honors college admissions and scholarships which are both big deals to me.

What about you are you going to apply priority, the Nov 15 deadline?

Now that I think of it, I still have to apply for housing, what is everyone putting down for their preferences?

hey guys, it's me, lsu2008. I forgot my password, but I made a very easy one this time. I applied the week before last.

I'm waiting for one of my friends to apply, and three of us are going to request to room together at either Herget, Highland or Annie Boyd.

Good luck...

Been a while since I heard anything from LSU...

Can I get in on that room? Haha, just kidding.

What's the deal with housing? Are you supposed to take care of that stuff now or only once you've committed to attending?

If I were you, I'd apply for housing once I commited to attending. If you do apply but don't attend, they'll give you the money back. Check their website, but I'm sure I read that somewhere. If you have your heart set on a certain dorm, you should apply asap.

So, notthatgood4, do you really think you'll attend LSU? I mean, would your parents let you move that far, and would you be comfortable with it? Personally I think you'd adjust just fine.
