I just received an email saying an admission office person was “fortunate to see your application and wanted to send a note of encouragement”. What is that supposed to mean? Did anyone else receive something similar?
I’ve also got one. “—but furthermore, you possess qualities of engagement, leadership, and drive, much like our students.”
Does it end the same? I’m thinking it’s somewhat kind of a “Hey kid, you look cool and we might accept you, easy with the stress.”
Any ideas?
Yup, I received that same exact email. I have no idea what this is supposed to mean, but I hope its an indicator of acceptance. who knows…
Not sure if I would go as far as to speculating about aid, though the email made me smile in a time filled with problems. If anyone from NEU sees this, thanks!
I got it too, and I guess it’s saying like, “hey your application is solid, you’ll probably get in”? Maybe money???
My son also got the email.
It may be Northeastern’s version of a likely letter.
I also received it from the Director of Admissions- anyone mind sharing what their test scores/grades are who received this?- 33 act and 3.97 unweighted gpa
S got it also, S has stats similar to @bow3208. However, being that they all say the same thing it means it is not as individualized as it appeared.
Mine didn’t say the same thing as @ClownInSuit 's. @Mysonsdad
Neither did mine.
Can you guys share exactly what you received?
There were at least 2 letters. There seems to be one for high stats kids(33-35ACT) and one for ultra high stats kids (36ACT). There may have been more, but my D’s friend group all got 1 of these two. The 3 girls with 2380+'s or 36’s got one letter, and the 34/35 ACT got the other. All girls had 4.0 unweighted GPAs. The girls did not compare #of APs or tests taken. Of course, understand that my sample of 8 girls is statistically insignificant.
One said ‘to say I was impressed would be an understatement’ the other was the quick note of encouragement. Both had some lovely adjectives in the middle and ended with ‘wish you the best of luck with your candidacy.’
No idea what they mean. I thought it was interesting that the girls that I considered to be superstars got the not as great letter and the great kids but not superstar got the great letter. The only difference we could figure out was standardized tests.
Best of luck to everyone. It won’t be long now.
Hm… My highest ACT composite was 32 with a super-score of 33 and I did not receive the letter. Not sure what my unweighted GPA is but a bit below a 4…
I have a 35 ACT and have the ‘to say I was impressed would be an understatement’ letter. No idea what to make of it…
@MuggleMom Just to clarify, the ultra high stats kids got the “quick note of encouragement”?
And the 34/35 ACT girl got the “to say I was impressed would be an understatement”?
@Defeat mine said
As part of my work with the admissions committee, I was fortunate to see your application. Your achievements speak for themselves; but more than that, your hard work and personal traits reflect the kind of student that thrives at Northeastern. Thank you again for your application and interest—I wish you the best of luck with your candidacy.
In the past admission decisions for top applicants who recieve Scholars or max merit aid came out around 2/10 so you may find out next week. For ED/EA top applicants also received a live phone call a few days before decisions came out.
@kendricklamar I’m sorry to confuse you. No, it was the other way around, as you would expect. Its just that the lower stats kids (not that much lower, 34/35ACT / 2240SAT) were more superstars in their school communities. That’s what I was saying. They were significantly more involved in their schools and had more leadership roles. At least, that was my impression.
I noticed that one letter does not mention leadership.
My son has a lot of leadership in his ECs and got the email that mentioned leadership.
