Yes, my S is waiting on a TON of decisions at the end of March. NEU was an EA. So far NEU is his top choice because of the full-tuition, the city (Boston is his dream college town), and the opportunities with the Scholars program.
He already got into University of Southern California with 1/2 tuition, Boston College (Honors program), University of Miami with 32K merit aid + in the running for a full-tuition scholarship, and some other schools in state.
The more he thinks about it the more he likes the idea of getting out of undergrad w/o debt. Since we don’t qualify for financial aid, we’re counting our blessing
@kittymom1102 Those are all great options!! My son is also waiting on many more notifications that are supposed to come in “by 4/1.” We’ll see what happens… Good luck and congratulations!!!
@TomSrOfBoston
I spoke to financial aid and apparently it was because my father had not entered his social on his information in IDOC so it didn’t link with my information. True story. Northeastern pulled his info up manually on college board and are working on my financial aid package now. I did log on IDOC myself and low and behold that was the only thing missing so it’s entered now.
Thanks for all your helpful posts.
@LkL5789 Northeastern gets a lot of applications from students in New England and the Mid-Atlantic. New Jersey in particular is known for producing a lot of college applicants because it’s largely comprised of densely populated middle to upper middle class suburbia. I heard that especially this year, Northeastern is trying to produce a more geographically diverse class. However, that doesn’t mean plenty of students from NJ/NY/PA won’t be accepted. I’m just assuming that the competition is greater for student coming from these areas.
And thank you for saying that my stats are great! It feels a bit weird to flaunt them on the internet but I just wanted to put my situation in context. Spending too much time on College Confidential can definitely shift your perception of an “normal” student. There are so many high-achieving kids on this forum that it’s easy to forget about all of the “average” kids who are also applying to the same schools.
I didn’t get any of the emails mentioned. But I did get my admission decision on Tuesday ( I applied RD). I got in to the College of engineering and the honors program. I also got the connections scholarship (which was a very nice surprise :-*) I am sorry if this was asked before but I can’t seem to find a definitive answer, can I use the scholarship money towards room and board? I have not gotten my aid package yet but its probably going to cover a large portion of my tuition. And the scholarship was substantial so I am pretty positive money would be left over. Congratulation to everyone accepted and good luck to those still waiting for their decision!!
@kittymom1102 Yeah, that’s what I thought, but I was hoping to be wrong sigh. I have emailed the financial aid office for specifics. Either way I’m very grateful for the scholarship (sure would be nice to be able to use it for room and board though! )
@Peggy1897 - basically, scholarship money counts as money you can now contribute to your education, so it makes sense that need-based aid would be reduced accordingly. (Also agree on the avatar. I need to watch the latest episode, especially since I had a crazy dream last night in which I was framed for her murder.)
@Peggy1897 I also got my admission decision on Tuesday! I got into the College of Social Sciences and Humanities and the honors program; however, I dont think I received any scholarship money (could it be because Im an international student?) did you get the scholarship letter the same day you got the admissions letter? Northeastern is definetely one of my top choices but I dont think I can afford it without some kind of grant/aid. Who do you guys think I should contact at NU to discuss about scholarship opportuinities??? Could I somehow get any sort of scholarship money if I appeal to admissions?
@Pugasus16 Congratulations on your acceptance! I did get my scholarship notification at the same time as my admissions decision. I don’t think appeals for scholarship money have ever been successful but it wouldn’t hurt to contact NU with any questions you may have.
