Has anyone gotten a rejection yet? Does it even mean anything to be waitlisted? I feel like I got a rejection because so many people get waitlisted (or does everyone who does not get accepted get waitlisted?).

Although apparently some people do get outright rejected, last year couldn’t find a soul on CC who had been (or anywhere else for that matter)…rumor last year that 15,000 were waitlisted but since Wash U is so transparent (NOT) with their stats, who knows??

What I do know is that the few people around here who were accepted off the waitlist were non-FA private school people who had college counselors really pull for them off that waitlist…so, if you REALLY want to go, get your GC or college counselor to help you!!!

me and a friend were rejected from my school…o well

o ya and i applied ED to washu and was deferred during that…really sucks

If you don’t mind my asking, what were your stats (SAT, GPA, Rank, etc…)?

gpa: uw 3.6 w 4.2…in the top 10%
32 act (33E, 33M, 33R, 28S)
Sat2s: 800 math2 and 640 chem
over 500 volunteer hours at a hospital, homeless shelter
tennis, swimming, and other various clubs…with some leadership positions too
and again i applied ED to washu

miktau got rejected. It’s on another thread.

Based on past experience, very few people who are rejected post that fact.

Rodney - I usually agree with you, but your post above “who were accepted off the waitlist were non-FA private school people who had college counselors really pull for them off that waitlist…” does not describe the situation properly in regard to the WL at WashU. It may be true in case of CC (I don’t have any info in that regard), but it certainly is not true in regard to the WL over the past few years.

Yeah I was flat out rejected. Thought i’d at least get waitlisted but oh well

33 act
3.5 uw
male from ny with solid ec’s

I bombed my calc midterm this semester so I reckon thats why I got flat out rejected instead of waitlisted.

ST2: actually, just speaking (or posting, haha) from personal knowledge of those in our area (whose parents actually told us that was how their kids were admitted off the waitlist)…no idea about the whole waitlist (obviously)…

…and to those rejected, I didn’t mean to be insensitive…again, speaking from past experience, not knowledge…

rodney - understood and I certainly did not mean to criticize your post. Just did not want people to get the wrong impression of the WL or how it works in general. Obviously you know the specifics of your area better than anyone.

rodney- if you go to a private school, that’s probably why.

I know that a few people from my school were waitlisted last year when they really should have been flat out rejected (27 act with no hooks that I’m aware of; my best guess is that it was to avoid insulting my school or something along those lines).

johnson: I would be the oldest HS student ever…haha…no, I’m a parent and my daughter attended a public HS last year when she was waitlisted…

The idea that no one is rejected is totally untrue. If I look at my school’s naviance graph, there are definite REJECTIONS. And they seem to follow a general pattern, that below a certain GPA or SAT/ACT, you will most likely be rejected. It’s especially hard to admit being rejected when everyone goes around saying no one is ever rejected at WUSTL.

To settle the score: I got flat out rejected last night and the person above me is right. I feel pretty stupid being rejected when it seems like everyone else is accepted/waitlisted. So in short, YES, people did get rejected and I was one of them.
