Anyone surprised by their AP Eng Lang score?

I definitely am. I expected a 5 before and after the test, and was very shocked when I got the mail, and it printed a 4.

During the year, I had possibly the most challenging English teacher ever, and I scrapped by with an A- first semester and then an A second semester, writing several 9's and 8's on her essays (she's a hard grader!). Although I was worried about the multiple choice, I somehow thought that my essays would make up for it.

But the MC section on the test was not very hard, to be honest. However, the essays may have thrown me off, especially the synthesis one on local produce (***)...

All in all, I was very very shocked about the score...I got too confident :( I would seriously do anything to go back in time and work harder on those essays :'(

Is anyone else in the CC community surprised by their score?

Well unlike you I was pleasantly surprised. I scored a 5 when I was expecting a 4.

I thought the essay on gov’t and stuff was the hardest MC section. I thought the rest were easy though. Also I didn’t find the synthesis essay to be too hard.

hmm i don’t remember an essay on govt…but mtpyankee, i would prefer to be pleasantly surprised like you any time lol :)

haha, it was on the constitution and founding fathers or something like that.

You think your teacher is a hard marker? Mine gave out no 9’s at all during the whole year to anyone, until the end of the year when she marked our short stories leniently (this was after the AP test)… Several 4’s and 5’s to essays that would actually be graded 6-7 on the actual test. At least our report card marks don’t actually reflect the grades we got… she curves it because she knows that our report card marks would be inaccurate!

I was definitely exaggerating, peachaso  Your teacher does seem like hell…no 9’s? But my teacher definitely isn’t a blow-off…everyone would add 2 points to the essay grade that she hands out so that they know what they would get on the actual AP test :stuck_out_tongue: I learned a ton in that class, and I thought the hard work would pay off with a 5, but I guess I was too confident :(

Like mtpyankee, I was pleasantly surprised with a 5; i thought I had a solid 4 but I barely finished because I got stuck on the hip hop and constitution passages and my third essay was like a 6 at best lol. However, my friend expected a 5 but got a 4 so i dont know how these tests work =/

Expected a 4, since that’s what I got on my class’s sole practice test. (Although I was like an essay point away from getting a 5.) I’m not much of an English person; I read like 0-1 books a year for fun, and whenever I do, it’s usually college related (The Gatekeepers, for example.) Multiple choice is usually difficult to me, but his test just “clicked” for me though, especially to the multiple AP US History references and a hip-hop section. I was like, “Wow, this is actually happening on my AP test, a dancing passage!?!” And then the essay with the produce was weird enough to be interesting to write about, followed by further references to AP USH.

Ended up with a 5!

Sorry, =/. I also thought I was getting a four, but ended up with a five.

I was incredibly surpised with my lang score. The MC was rather easy, and, for me, had no difficult or strange questions. The essays on the other hand were a nightmare. I spent too much time writing the Locavore essay (around 1 hour) and I completely BS’d the free response essay (wrote it in like 25 minutes).

That said, I ended up with a 5. Strange :P
