...studying or doing homework while listening to music? If you have, does it seem to distract you at all?

It certainly distracts me a lot, especially when I'm writing English essays, reading textbooks and figuring out hard problems. However it does not distract me at all when I'm doing easy or medium math problems.

are you just so afraid that it might.........

.......blow your MIND?

seriously, just try it and see for yourself

i only listen to music while writing essays or doing math homework. other than that, it distracts me.

i listen to music while doing work for online classes, writing mindless garbage for english, doing anything related to ap stat, and the more easy stuff related to calc bc. music goes off if i have to actually study or do physics hw

I listen to music while I do everything and anything. I actually focus less if I'm not listening to music.

The English teacher I had 10th and 11th grade even let us listen to our iPods while we were writing papers (she did, though, require that the volume be low and we only listen to it in one ear so we could hear her if she called on us for something).

only when doing math homework or writing an essay. other than that, i cant concentrate.

I cannot listen to music while doing anything. It makes it impossible for me to focus! I think it has something to do with the fact that I'm obsessed with cello and orchestra stuff, listening harder or something? Anyway, since I just listen to classical music anyway (I know, I know.) even music without words is distracting.

Yeah, it just distracts me. Can't even read for pleasure while listening to music.

But it's def. not that way for everyone, though that is true for most people.

^I LOVE classical music. ^_^

Probably because I've been in choir for 9 years and all we do is madrigals.

When writing essays or any other homework at the computer, I tend to listen to classical music because of the lack of lyrics. I can't listen to anything with words, however, because I forget what I'm typing.

The only other homework that I tend to listen to music to is math. I can listen to anything when doing my math homework because I'm not reading anything. Otherwise, I don't really listen to music while doing any other homework.

For those you who listen to classical-ish music, I recommend either Chopin's Nocturnes or the Trilogy Sonata for Piano performed by Paul Barnes (the second and third movements are the best). Those are both excellent to listen to (at least for me) while I'm writing essays.

i always listen to music when i write essays
but the music i listen too varies with the type of essay im writing

sad essay= emotional music
happy essay= upbeat music

i guess it gets me in the mood of my topic

d.i.s.t.r.a.c.t.i.n.g

I like listening to music while writing things or working on major projects, but it's usually soft, mellow stuff- think The Hush Sound. It makes a nice white-noise barrier, so I don't get distracted by other sounds.

only while doing math, sometimes essay writing, when I'm focused.

Oh, I can't do homework without music playing. It takes the edge off the monotony, since most of my teachers enjoy assigning busywork.

I have to shut it off when I'm writing papers sometimes, though.

Always.. during everything.. I've got music on right now :)

During busy work I can listen to music, and during writing or difficult math problems I usually listen to classical music so I don't distract myself and sing along.

Usually, I listen to music when I do homework, except when I do stuff on the computer or read (rather intensively). I've become so used to music, either I don't really consciously hear it, or the homework distracts me from the music.

I always listen to music while doing my homework or reading and it never distracts me.
