Do you listen to music when studying?

Do you? If so, what do you listen to?

Music seems to bother me when I read.

But I do when I’m doing math, busywork, or required notes.

ARCADE FIRE! SWEDISH HOUSE MAFIA! COLDPLAY! etc…

Not when studying, but I do listen to it when doing long projects so that I don’t rip my hair off.

Not when I’m studying, but when I’m doing math homework or writing fill in the blank stuff.

Mostly Regina Spektor :)

During sat prep lol;

for every thing but mathematics, for some reason. i can’t concentrate if i listen to music and try to do math.

Not when I’m trying to do English stuff. Like essay writing. I write the lyrics so music is a no go

Somehow I can listen to music during anything, and if I’m reading and thourghly enjoying the book, I can somehow pick out in my brain if a song I don’t like comes on.

Same. Not for reading/writing. I usually don’t turn it on for math etc. just because I don’t want it on when I finish.

Haha this is weird but… I find it good for writing? It sustains a mood.

It helps when I’m cleaning/sorting/packing though!

Well, maybe if you’re trying to write creatively. But for academic essays, I don’t need a mood.

^I listen to music when writing. It helps me write, lol.

I think I tell myself I like to study with music because I end up just listening to what I really like and just sing along and get nothing done. So I guess I can’t/don’t really study or work with music on.

Music is too distracting for me when I’m reading a book or doing any kind of written work, but I always listen to my iPod when I’m just studying.

Always. I have the radio or some playlist playing all the time lol

I listen to it when doing math. Helps you sketch graphs and do integrals with a beat :)

I listen to classical music while I do work up in my room (no Internet, so I use my iPod). When I’m on the computer, I listen to more classical as well as songs my friend sends me (ranging from The Script to The Killers to Arcade Fire to the Persona soundtrack).

I can listen to music while doing any kind of studying, except for reading. There are exceptions within the reading category, too; if it a subject that I enjoy, then usually music doesn’t bother me, but if it’s something like a history book (which I don’t like), then music is incredibly distracting. For practical purposes though, I will usually turn off the music for any kind of studying, because even I can tolerate the music, sometimes I will only listen to the music for brief periods, which causes me to take longer to finish assignments. I almost always listen to music to do busy work, though.

I <3 classical too. Do you have any favorite composers and pieces?
