Anyone turning down Regents at UCLA? If so why?

Is it worth it to take regents at UCLA over admissions at UCB or UCSD? Need Help on deciding where to transfer!

BTW: Philosophy Major--- No clear preferences... For city v Rural or student body composition...

From a strictly monetary view it would make sense to take the regents at UCLA. A two-year scholarship is a wonderful thing. UCLA has a great reputation. I guess that some important factors would be... Will the program at any of your choices be a better fit for you... Do you think that you could live there comfortably for at least two years... Are there professors there you would like to study with...

If you're thinking about continuing on to a grad program any one of your choices would be competitive. It really just boils down to whichever one would be a good fit for you (but remember to factor in the scholarship as well - it might not be the only factor in your decision but the idea of coming out of undergraduate work without debt is a great thing)

You might want to send a message to xleper17. I think she was a phil major that had some info on how the programs vary

You can also put down you got you received a regents scholarship on your grad school app.

UCLA Regents - no contest in my opinion. No way would i turn that down for UCB or UCSD

I'd turn that down any day of the week...

Malishka31 could you elaborate on why Regents would be a hands down for you?

CalBear you bring up good points. Although im pretty sure that Regents isn't a full ride deal. Mattn i'll definetley message Xleper and hopefully she can help me out. I appreciate everyone's input... One of these days ill be able to answer questions instead of just ask them!

Undergrad should be as cheap as possible.

Regents get a lot of other perks- like early enrollement and parking- which is a big deal because getting the classes you want in large schools is difficult.

I personally prefer the atmosphere and geographic location of UCLA.
I would rather be at UCLA than at any of the other two schools. (i am from san diego, and i visited cal... i personally do not like LA as in the city but love the UCLA bubble)

I think UCLA and CAL are equal in terms of education- but UCLA is giving you that something extra by offering Regents so it would be a no brainer for me.... plus i am totally biased and would have chosen UCSD over CAL if i didnt get into UCLA. I just really did not like Berkeley and didnt have any desire to go there.

Also b/c i find them educationally equal, i would consider other factors, like what environment i would want to be in and UCLA would win out for me. I just prefer the vibe of UCLA.

Also consider that the opportunaties present at these schools greatly out weight your abilities to utilize them- there is just too many things to be involved with for any one student to utilize all that is offered. You would not miss out on anything in terms of education regardless of what school you went to basically. You are doing undergrad and no matter what school you would chose out of these 3 they all have far too many opportunaties to choose from.

Malishka31 - I disagree with your statement about choosing UCSD over Cal.

The way I see it, any difference in education is really negligible, especially with a fairly common major like philosophy, which makes the cost and priority enrollment/parking aspects that much more important

changusmc: why so adamant for cal?
