Anyone who has taken college algebra at Valencia?

I'm considering this option, but I'm confused as to what the prerequisites are. I was told at UCF that there are none for MAC1105, but I checked on their website that either a "C" in intermediate algebra or a certain score on an approved assessment is required. What approved assessment are they talking about? Can anybody clarify this for me, preferably someone who never took the math placement test?

It depends on how you place on the placement test. If you get into college algebra you don’t need intermediate algebra unless you really think you can’t handle it. That’s how you are placed in a math class at UCF or unless you AP credit etc. At VCC the placement is based sometimes on your ACT/SAT math score. At Valencia College Algebra is better, since it is a smaller classroom. I took it there as a Dual Enrollment student and got a 98. And it wasn’t like a 98 that I didn’t do work or anything, I had tons of homework and still managed. Others failed. So don’t think its like an entire step down, it can get tough for certain people. BUT it is still WAY better than taking College Algebra at UCF. So stick to VCC
