Are the two exams sufficient similar that a student doing well in the AP class should consider taking the SAT II? Would some prep for the SAT II be required? advisable?

Thanks!

Yes, if your child is taking AP US History, the US History SATII shouldn't be a problem. Both of my sons did very well on it without any additional prep. They both love history though so they seem to absorb it easily.

The multiple-choice section of the AP exam and the SAT Subject Test are virtually identical.

Enjoy.

Absolutely. It's a real cake walk. I didn't even study for my SAT II that came about 3 weeks after the AP.

That's what I was hoping. Thanks!

5/790. I was actually surprised how similar the two were.

Definitely take SAT2. Buzz through a few practice tests, just to make sure there are no holes in prep.

My D says taking the SAT2 a few weeks before the AP exam really helped her prepare for the AP exam. The SAT2 makes you learn basic facts. The AP Exam then takes those facts into more "deep thinking." She is recommending to all her junior friends to schedule their SAT2 in May shortly before the AP exam.
